Mozzie Zapper .
Just to put up a new topic ... I have seen on E-bay a mozzie zapper for about $15 . If you are out in the bush in a caravan , mozzies can be a pain in the bum . I know . This seems to be a good unit , rechargeable batteries on USB . It has an ultra violet attraction and then when they get close the fan sucks them in ! I do not have one but I would get one if I went bush in a caravan .Check it out .

Re: Mozzie Zapper .
I purchased a similar unit from ebay and it didn't work that well, it seems the fan is no where strong enough to act as a proficient mozzie catcher. Left it turned on for 2 hours on a good mozzie night and there were only 3 mozzies out of 50 potentially good targets caught. you can not have any other source of light on as it will distract the mozzies from the trap hope this helps. there are probably better ones on the market but maybe a bit more expensive. Hope this helps.

Re: Mozzie Zapper .
In other words Steve, guaranteed to be bitten to death by the other 47, before catching 3 out of the 50?

Re: Mozzie Zapper .
I already have a fairly standard zapper (cost a tad under 80 bucks) from bunnings without the fan and it misses way more mozzies than it catches.
Maybe the skeeters will just use the fan draught as a flight training area.
You be right Steve; these low power UV zappers seem to only work when the ambient light is very low.
I have a 80 watt uv grow lamp that seems to mess with the skeeter brains a bit.

Thought I added this quote to my profile for a reason....

I can totally agree with that one Pete. Nasty little blood suckers, which even put shame to Count Dracula. Mind you, if they were the size of a large truck, they'd be the best drilling rigs available.
Cheers Kon.

Just looking at another one on E-bay , it has a vertical fan . Stock in Australia and they claim to have sold over 1,000 .

The one and only method is to keep your fly wire in good condition.
We found when away camping in the van the mossies weren't a problem it was the mongrel midges, (flying teeth) that squeezed through the flywire. Fixed that by fitting "midge proof" wire. Quite expensive so only fitted it to the windows/vents left open at night time.
Re: Mozzie Zapper .
Received the mozzie zapper today.
It does attract mozzies, it does have a fan that couldn't suck a single helium atom into the trap even if you placed it in the air flow.
The thing has to be powered by a usb 5 dc volt output, this makes it an impractical device for camping and anywhere that ya don't have a usb power supply.
It does not have an on/off switch. I could probably fit a battery supply to it but I doubt that I will bother. This gadget is destined for the rubbish bin.

Re: Mozzie Zapper .
Yeah I have a car 2 x usb cig lighter doohicky but I don't usually need a mozzie zapper in my car.
I could fit a battery and switch to it but the thing is so useless it is not worth the effort.
I like the interesting hint included with this device; It states to set the zapper a good distance away from your body coz if it is too close the mozzies would rather bite me than fly in to the trap.
