Whipstick wonder.
Hi everyone.
I got out for another detect in the Whipstick yesterday and it was a very brisk morning but warmed up nicely in the afternoon.
I tried one spot first but got sick of digging up .22 calibre bullets and very little else. One projectile I was sure was gold but the other side of it had the tell tale bullet base. I then moved a little further down the road and found an overgrown area. I headed up and over the hill and it was covered in shrubs and almost no dig holes.
There were no signals at all until I got one close to the surface, so loud it sounded as if it was right on the surface. The first scrape with my boots made no difference and I was expecting it to move. Another scrape of the dirt this time and it was still in there. I had a bit of a dig and overturned a good sized rock which looked to have a bit of gold attached to it.
I quickly grabbed the rock and waved it over the coil and got nothing. Very disappointed. I grabbed a handful of dirt and waved it over the coil and again nothing. The next handful and something dropped out and onto the ground. It’s amazing how you look at something still sitting in the dirt or has dropped from your hand and you just know even though it only looks like dirt.
I picked up the piece and washed it off and a very nice piece of gold.
4.87 grams which made me a very happy prospector and more than doubled my total for this year.
That was all I found but managed to get stung by a wasp or maybe a bullant on my chest. Still itchy and probably will be for the next week or 2.
Good prospecting out there to everyone.
Regards Axtyr.

Re: Whipstick wonder.
Back in the early 1980's 4.87 grams was considered a good find, so a "sting by a wasp or maybe a bullant on my chest." is a small price to pay. I think your sting was from a 1.5 cm jumping jack ant (black with a yellow face" twice as bad as a Bull Ant.)

Isn't it always the way? We walk along crying in our beers that we're only finding tiny bits the old timers left us , then suddenly out pops a beauty and everything negative is forgotten, everything is right with the world and Bruce is still God.
Great work, Cheers, Harry
