Painted Horse Cafe Sofala
Have just arrived home in Brisbane after spending a month camped on the Turon at Green Point, the wife and I visit the Mudgee and Bathurst areas on a regular basis as we still have family down their. Anyway, we stoked up the detectors {4500-2300} and visited our favourite areas between Sofala and Mudgee with moderate success, visited Sandys Hotel at Sofala for the chook raffel on Thursday nights and discovered the Painted Horse Cafe recently opened opposite the Pub in the old renovated shops, if you want some good food or coffee pay this cafe a visit. A grocery shop and an antique shop in the same block to open soon. Happy detecting.

Re: Painted Horse Cafe Sofala
Does the family of Mrs. Farrel still own the Sofala pub?
Spent a lot of time there in the 1970's, similarly at Bob Flatts café just up the road.
They were the days when you couldn't hear the magpies for dredge motors and tickling a big brown trout under a bank overhang was tonights meal.
Around that time, Sofala, like so many other historic gold locations had its own "black panther" too
Between Sofala and Wattle flat, other than the hill, there is some great history.

Not real sure what Sandys maiden name was but pretty sure her parents ran the pub before her, also for anyone interested the old Gold Commissioners house in the village is for sale.
