Re: 18650 battery system
Been trying a set of 6000mah NiMH Accupower batteries from Nenad (Thanks mate Best deal ever) for the past few days.
Theses batteries run the SDC for a significant extra time over the 4500s that I have been using.
I tested them from full to low battery warning and did this by turning the tecta on, setting threshold to 3 LEDs on and in a high EMI area which lit up the occasional 4th LEd. Sort of like a high trash area The SDC ran for 5+hrs non stop ( using HPs) untill the red Low battery LED came on. I did not run the detector untill total stop..
How does this compare to other users of these batteries.
For myself these batteries are fine although I am not sure why they have "Nickel Metal Hydride" printed on one side and "Nickel Metall Hydrid" on the oposite side of the batt.

Re: 18650 battery system
Mine have the same written on them.. same batteries
i brought mine from finderskeepers in Kalgoorlie..
They worked a treat, I get about the same, about 6 hours, but i dont do that amount of hours in one hit..
Had it set on 4 on sensitivity, second light flashing.
With headphones

The adapters are made for finders keepers but if you know some one with a 3d printer you could possibly get them to print something up. The ones shown on here are turned up on a lathe i am pretty sure.

Re: 18650 battery system
I know the thread was about the other batteries
But i think Adrian was reffering to these ones.
Wasn't it Adrian???
Great idea.. a 3d printer..

G'day hooplahoopa,
Yes you're right they have been turned up in a lathe and they work really well.
Cheers.

Yes Jen those are the batts I am referring to.
They give a reasonable run time. Also very few of us keep the detector running continuously for the entire day and so the 6 hours will give a good days detecting with stops for a cuppa, lunch and to straighten your back out a bit.

Re: 18650 battery system
I have had these batteries for two season over in the west.. and they still work ok.
But now they are my spare batteries..
Also with these batteries there is no need to put tape around them, they are a nice snugg fit.
Sdc2300 never reboots itself.
Yep thats right, plenty of stops between.
Have to just sit down and give the back and legs a bit of a rest.
Right arm gets tired, ( i dont use a bungy) might have to this season
Have a cuppa, and a snack
Funny thing is when there is a few of us, we tend to sit and talk more then detect.

Yeah that is what happens to me when at the coast.
Someone asks a question and I end up using the detector as a leaning post in the sand and yacking my head off for an hour.

Not only a bungy Jen, but the hip stick as well. I can detect all day with both. (Only the insecure think they're woosy)

G'day Peter
That's not good, I suggest that the charger is not charging the batteries fully, if you have a multi meter they should read a bit over 4 volts each when just taken of the charger. These batteries have a self cutoff built into them that won't let them go below 3.0 volts or most likely a bit above 3.0 volts each. As on there description of 3.7volts is basically there nominal rating, and they charge upto 4.2 volts straight of the charger and hold at around 4 volts.
The 4000mah ones should get a days detecting if fully charged and the 3400mah a bit less maybe as they are only a bit over 2/3rds the capacity
We have 4600mah ones and get over a days worth, well we recharge at the end of a day and they are not flat.
The battery test meter on the 2300 is not any use for these 18650's as it shows still fairly much full charge when they are flat, as the original "C" cell batteries that come with the machine are only 4.6 volts in total for the 4 of them when fully charged, and as you can imagine the 18650's are around 8 volts for the both of them when fully charged and still around 6 volts when flat and the turn themselves off.
Hope this helps some and you really need a multi meter to check things, even one of the elcheapo ones from supercheap auto or the like.
cheers dave
