18650 battery system
Hi all
Well a couple of weeks back while down in Kalgoorlie
We went into the finders keepers store.
We were told about this new battery setup for the sdc2300
Its not cheap!
Just over 3 grams of gold should cover the cost, so not that bad..
Works a treat!!
It comes with 2x 18650 batteries.. ( i have now ordered 2 spare ones from Ebay )
The 2 adapters to put the batteries into..
A charger.
Anyway just wanted to share with everyone, as it has made my sdc2300 run much smoother

Re: 18650 battery system
Hi Jen,
What is the charge time and use time with this system. If the charger only takes 2 batteries this would mean that it would take about twice as much to do all 4 unless battery capacity is less meaning SDC would not work as long as it does with the supplied batteries. More info please Jen.
Cheers
Doug

Re: 18650 battery system
I have seen this system, not on Jens but someone else.
It only has 2 x 18650 Li batteries they take the place of the 4 C size batteries, they run the 2300 at a higher voltage than the originals and get a better result, they can also run for a longer time, depends on the amp hour rating of the 18650's
I think the charger is fairly fast,I'll have to recheck about that.
cheers dave

Re: 18650 battery system
Hi Doug
I get 2 days use from them..
The amp hour on mine is 3400mAH
The charge time is roughly 4 to 5 hours.
They have made my sdc2300 run much better, i can now rev it up..
Meaning i have sensitivity on 5
Threshold up to 3 lights with fourth flashing.
Sdc2300 is running smooth, i can hear all those tiny faint tackers, well they aren't so faint anymore.
Oh everytime i check to see what the battery level is at..
Its on full..
But when they go flat! They just go flat
but like i said i get 2 days use from them.
Thanks Davsgold..

Hi Jen & Dave,
Thanks for the info, sounds like a good setup. I think I will have to find the 3 grams and buy the system.. Thanks again for telling us about it.

Re: 18650 battery system
G'day Pete
See the dark grey cylinders, they hold the 18650 Li batteries 1 in each cylinder, and replace the 4 C size standard batteries, the square box thingy is the battery charger, no need to tape it to the side of the detector
Jen may be good enough to take a couple of pics of the 18650 batteries in the cylinders ready to go into the detector.
cheers dave

Re: 18650 battery system
Veronica borrowed a set of these battery system today to use if her 2300, very happy, seems to run more stable and found about 6 grams of gold. Will be buying a set of these cylinders, we already have 4 of the 18650 Li batteries and charger for a torch.

It appears you can't get the 18650 with the tabs from Hong Kong to replace dead in GPX battery.

Dave , your comment on batteries for a torch caught my attention . I also have some and they are excellent . Is yours from USA!!
For the forums interest this web site is excellent for hand built torches , USA opinion rates them the best supplier .
www.mtnelectronics.com
Click on flashlights and click on Supfire M6 . Out of stock at moment . I use this light in the bush . Standard use 3000 lumens.
Throw 300 metres . Turbo use 4,500 lumens . Being compact and very heavy Americans use this for blinding in an attack and with the weight it is designed also to be aggressive , very popular with woman to carry if they are out at night .

Hi Jen ,
Do the 18650 batteries slide in where the 4 c"s are housed . I buy mine from USA for my torch as well .

Re: 18650 battery system
Yep! You place them into the adapters, they are the size of the 2 C size batteries
So you place the 18650 batteries into them
Then they slide into where the C size battery went.
Nice fit, no movement, therefore the Scd2300 doesn't cut in and out.. YAY
Haveing the extra power with these batteries, I believe has made my 2300 run smoother.
My Brother ( Tony ) has also gone for this option, and likes it!
So have a few others.

Re: 18650 battery system
Thanks Jen,
Looked on the Finders Keepers website with no luck.
Looked at the link you provided and can't really tell if the "tubes" are included. Would probably rather get from Finders anyway. Prefer your price as well, but reckon by the time I get to them they will have gone up.
Anyway, will try to ring Finders later in the morning when WA time catches up a bit.
Thanks again,
Bernie

Where did you buy the battery adaptors?
G'day Peter
You can get the battery adapters from Finders Keepers in Kalgoorlie, you can get these separately or get the whole system, charger batteries and adapters.
Veronica has used the adapters in her 2300 with the 18650 Li batteries, it works very well.

Hi Jen,thank you for posting this info ,is this the same system?

It just doesn't have the grey sleeve adapters to fit in the SDC..could you tell me where they sell these please?
Cheers...Dave

No that right Peter, it's fairly new system, Mark and Pam were one of the first ones testing the system for Finders Keepers, just give Finders keepers a ring and talk to them about it, I'm sure they will eventually get them listed on the website.

Re: 18650 battery system
Seems a great idea, smoother and more sensitive. Thanks.
Would like to know if running with the higher voltage will impact the warranty on the 2300, cannot recall what the situation was with the higher voltage on the GP machines.

Haha,Bernie..i don't have any affinity with these guys ( Urban Outback) just that I bought my 'C' size rechargeable batteries called 'Tenergy' from them, which work brilliantly,so I thought i'd have a look and see if they have the same system that Jen posted about
It looks to be the same one,but way cheaper Not trying to take business away from other people, but we're all trying to save a buck or two if we can
I just was trying to work out the length of the 18650 batteries compared to the 'C' cells that I use now, because you need 4 'C's for the connection to be made when the battery door is closed, and the way it looks from Jen's post is you only need two of the 18650's
Anyone?
Cheers..Dave

It hasn't affected my sdc2300, it just keeps it running much smoother and the batterys stay charged up longer..
My brother is also using the same setup.. He only just brought his sdc2300, he is also not having any problems.. So i can not see why it would affect our warranty..
If you read on the instructions/user manual for the sdc2300, it says, to make sure that the C size batteries are always
Fully charged, in other words, once they go half flat, you lose proformance!
Well that's how we read it.
