Re: Off Topic Nikon P900/1000
Aircraft approx 7km away.
Still plenty of sun spots with one more large one just rotating into view near the top left of the pic.
very cloudy today and just after a severe squall passed through.
This new spot (quite large) is likely approx 45000km in diam inc the penumbra. The Umbra (dark centre) is approx 25000 km in diam, It will probably consist of more than one spot which will become clearer as the sun rotates around a bit more

Re: Off Topic Nikon P900/1000
This is a nasty spot and is tossing some high energy particles in our direction which will cause some radio black outs, high earth currents and interesting aurora's
Trying to get some granulation to show...Not much luck.... Wish I had some good filters that would bring out the granulation and other stuff like what the rich kids have with their you beaut scopes n cameras.
These are hand held shots with P1000.
Aside from extra zoom range there is not much difference between the P900 & P1000
Another day later and a few more smaller spots are becoming visible at top of pic.

Images at this site change daily, so you might miss out on this particular S spot.

Re: Off Topic Nikon P900/1000
Hand held with the P1000. I doubt that I can get any clearer with this camera.
It does not seem to make any difference to sharpness even with the camera tripod mounted and shutter time delay of several seconds selected and using 2000th sec shutter speed, the image is still fuzzy. Atmospheric turbulence is difficult to defeat.
It is interesting that what I see in the camera view finder is very much clearer and sharper than what I get on the final photograph.
A couple more shots taken a few mins ago today 28/11/2020.
1. The overall field
2. the main spot that appears to show 2 maybe three Light bridges spanning the centre of the spot.

Re: Off Topic Nikon P900/1000
From 1998 to 2002 it has been very active. From 2002 until 2020 activity has gradually lessened. Between 2017 and Nov 2020 the sun has become very quiet.
Is it the calm before the storm or is it going to snuff out?
https://youtu.be/o-DHwNFDgOU
If the sun in the video on this link was a ball 5 mm in diameter as it appears on my computer screen then the Earth would be a 0.04 mm diameter speck of dust 5 metres away.......At that scale we as humans are less than electron microscopic and yet we think we can work out what the universe is . All I can say is stop wasting time trying to find out the impossible.
At the same scale (as a challenge) work out how far away Mars would be and what size it would be, then do the same for the other planets and then the next nearest star and then the size of the galaxy and then how far away would be the andromeda galaxy. You will then realise how futile it is to try to work out what the universe is and how it was created....If you hold a pin head out at arms length in front of you at the night sky and realise that in the space that the pin head hides from your view there are more galaxies at unimaginable distances than what we can already see from Earth.

Well my now not so little finger cruncher is lucky to be still here.
I set up a time laps camera to record his goings on for 5 hours while we were away yesterday.....He warded off attacks by two magpies, a Murry magpie, an Indian minor and a Currawong. The magpie got the closest and just missed lizard lunch by about an inch. The Currawong had a good crack at him but missed.
The Magpie having a go.
A Currawong contemplating lunch through a screen that I placed strategically between him an grumpy.

Re: Off Topic Nikon P900/1000
Quite a lot of drivers here do not even slow down when these birds are zigzagging across the road in front of them but as soon as one gets hit by a car the drivers then try to avoid running over the injured or dead bird.
This particular bird was clobbered and died straight away and about ten other cockies gathered around it on the road, then another driver stopped and removed the bird off the road and placed it in the grass then the remaining birds gathered silently around it nudging it now and again while other cockatoos that had been flying around like maniacs (as cockies do) all sat quietly in nearby trees and just watched and now and again one would come down for a look at the dead bird.
All of the crazy flying and screeching ceased for the rest of the day.
Maybe he was the "Boss Cocky"
