Best $1000 detector for Bendigo Goldfields ?
I've got a $1000 budget (capex approved by the Chief Financial Officer), to update from the cheapie that my son and I have been practising with in parks and around a few digs for the last 12 months.
Being in Bendigo, I want something best suited to the junky ground conditions in and around old diggings, mine sites and bushland, to have the best chance of finding any leftover goldstuff, with a view of spending more time in the goldfields than parks.
Having read lots of threads and reviews, it sounds like the Xterra 705 or Eureka Gold with their tripple frequency,or Sovereign GTwith its multi-frequency, might offer the best fit.
I don't know though which is best application of the three frequency ranges available from these three detectors.
I thought maybe the Eureka might be the go with the versatility of its descrete low to high freqs.
I'd greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions to make the decision easier.
Thanks..Stuart

Re: Best $1000 detector for Bendigo Goldfields ?
Gooday stu66 and welcome to the forum. Not sure on those detectors personally, but also don't discount a good secondhand SD2000 as a good gold finder. Up there you might want to chat to the boys at Bendigo Gold and I also think that I read that Aussie Detecting and Prospecting have also moved near there too. If interested, have a look in the "Commercial Advertising" section. Meanwhile someone else may be able to comment on the models you have asked about.
Cheers

If you want nuggets and don't care how small they are, I would get the GMT or the Gold Bug 2. You can get them for $1000 or under. Both will find nuggets that the SD/GP?GPX can't find because they're too small. You might also be able to pick up an SD 2000 for under $1000 but you would be searching for larger nuggets that. The Xterra 705 with small coil will find the small stuff as well, you can also use it for parks, but it's not as specialised as the GMT or the GB2.
