Jagged a pic of Saturn a few mins ago. about 3 sec exp and manual focus. Remote shutter release with 10 sec delay to reduce cam shake.
This is about as good as the 900 will do on a planet I reckon. Better than nothing I guess

Great shot of Saturn and rings Adrian.  The light to make that image took around 1hr 15min to arrive,  all 3 seconds worth, amazing. Rgds/Tony.

Hi Tony.
The 900 is limited for star and planet pics at high zoom due to the small imaging chip. Result is that the planets look a tad blotchy and do not respond well to enlargement. For a hand held cam I guess it does ok. I have tried a few time lapse star trail & moon movies which are ok but I donot have a youtube account. Wish there was an easier way to place vids on the forum

Another visitor to our yard today that we have not had before.
Made short work of the tree ripping chunks of bark off it.

The black cockys are destructive birds. I watch a small group of Red-tailed blacks, defoliate a tree in a caravan park in Perth over 2 days. The ground was just littered with the new branches that they just chomped through.

Do you have a "loud noisemaker" to frighten it away? I would be a bit more expressive in what I would call it.

I'd say there may have been a grub in under the bark that it may have been after. I don't know how they know their there but they are seldom wrong.

definitely looks like something was living in the trunk although I have not been able to spot anything yet. maybe white ants/termites. He was digging and ripping at the base of the tree as well. Some of the smaller branches approx 2.5 cm thick look as though they were chomped through with one bite. affraid

Am not sure how to fix my damaged tree branches. Should I close up the wound with pitch or maybe silastic? I don't think it will survive because the bloody cocky chewed through half of a main branch. if I cut it off that will be half of the tree gone. Maybe just bind it with plastic tape??

I just googled "protecting damaged tree bark" and it came up with a range of options that were much better than I would have thought of.

had a look at those options. I might just remove the damaged branches. That cocky is a real mongrel of a bird. Maybe cut its head off and use the beak as a tree lopper. Laughing

We have two wattle trees in the back yard, one is at least 23 years old. I planted it in 87 the one that has been chewed is approx 10 years.
Also have a Bay Leaf , a White heart cherry tree, A Plum tree and a Loquat tree, a struggling Tree fern and a humungous/ biggish Oleander
I like birds in the yard, that is why I have the trees but I get a bit grumpy when the bludgers try to defoliate them. Yellow tail black Cocky stew is looking good. Very Happy

The only thing that waters it is rain.
I have cut it back a few times coz it was attacking the power lines.
I have always thought it is a Blackwood Wattle but am not really sure, maybe a Golden wattle.

They often are associated with hail storms as they are formed by the air rapidly swirling upwards.

They are called Altostratus Mamma – Or Mammatus - The name ‘mamma’ comes from the hanging pouches of this altostratus species which resemble a woman’s mammary glands.

Well my little buddy seems to have made it through 4 months of hibernation after looking like he was on deaths door a couple of months ago.
Poked his nose out from under his hidaway just now.
Tough little buggers. Gave him a bit of raw meat that he pounced on like a starving T-Rex Laughing Then parked in the sun for a warm up.
