Overcast where I am so no chance to see much at all. Was a good sunrise, but didn't get a chance to take any pics of it.

Re: Off Topic Nikon P900/1000
Couldn't find the moon Adrian so i took this star almost straight above, might be some star system called Puppis according to Night sky 4 app on iphone .
First one i took while leaning against post
2nd one just freehand. (Not sure if same object)
The zoom is unbelievable. Back in the seventies i had a Canon F1 and used to dream of owning such a powerful beast of a lens.
A photo of the individual hairs on the kitten in normal mode..... crystal clear i think.
A piece of quartz from about 12 metres
What a great camera!

Re: Off Topic Nikon P900/1000
Yeah it is surprising what this cam can do from just hand held.
The auto focus does not work on stars or planets, not even if Spot Focus is selected. It is best to go to manual focus mode for star and planet shots. Yeah the manual focus is a tad clunky. It would be much better to have a focus ring in the lens.
Nice shot of the kitty. Now do another one to see if the red eye correction works.

You have steady hands grasshopper.
Took this one last week steadying against wall.
Tripod just arrived so hopefully images should improve.

Still an ok shot with plenty of usable detail. A very early new moon.
Cam was on a tripod for my pic.

Re: Off Topic Nikon P900/1000
Loving the moon photo's Adrian.
The Dark side is the interesting side, that's where most the activity is..
Apparently if you look towards the N.W. corner, that's where you might witness strange activity such as objects arriving and leaving.
The Dark side of the moon is divided up into territories where other beings have bases, very similar to Antartica.
However in the N.W. corner is a base very close to the lighted side, this is where people report strange activity, such as craft arriving and leaving.
Ever wondered why we don't go back to the moon? or why we don't have a base there? or why we don't do mining on the moon?...
Most the interest these days is about Mars.
That's because there is already a million human living there mostly in underground bases.
By 2030 all this will be exposed.
Call me crazy.. But in the future you can reflect back to this post.

Found these from last week as well
Took this using the tripod. Not too sure if the monopod is any help yet, might get steadier.

Re: Off Topic Nikon P900/1000
Almost got the bands of Jupiter tonight.
It seems that the only way I can get the cloud bands to display is to set the shutter speed or aperture to expose for the planet only, which means that the moons will not show.

Re: Off Topic Nikon P900/1000
Handy info. The IR remote interests me.
What settings did you use for that moon shot?
Try ISO 200.
Moon Mode.
Zoom as high as you can go and still auto focus.
Hold cam veeeerrrry steady or use a tripod and set a 12 sec delay to let the cam settle after pressing the shutter button.
Take the shot and then crop the pic in the camera to how you want it.
Stay out of the digital zoom area so as to obtain sharpest pics.
Make sure your view finder is focused for your eyes.
Previous shot was Trimmed from this.

Found this gecko, (The Thick-tailed Gecko ) in an old piece of carpet. It looks almost tropical. Don't know how to macro yet, hate reading any manual ) but it came out pretty good.

Re: Off Topic Nikon P900/1000
Never too late to find a new planet Adrian, going to cost you $15K?
Considering the millions spent on high tech observatories this hobbyist has done very well, no doubt the planet will be named after him.
He'll need more than a cut lunch & water bag to make the journey. :-)

Re: Off Topic Nikon P900/1000
Prof Brian Cox was in Aust last week and did an astronomy tv show. While here they had a series of photos set up where people could study the pics in such a way so as to spot possible planets orbiting stars in the Milky way.
A young chap spotted what looked like possible star eclipses and actually found 2 or maybe 3 planets orbiting a star. They have been confirmed and now the fellow is a happy chappy with mentions in scientific dispatches and at least one planet named after him. All he needed was his eyes. Of course someone had to take the photo's.
Yeah you be correct in that they are so far away as to be of zero importance to anybody. If we zapped a signal off to them now it would arrive in 40.000 years from now and 40,000 years from then if someone was able to answer we would receive the reply.

Re: Off Topic Nikon P900/1000
Well that one is pretty tame.
My mates will not let me closer than about 3 foot. although I am not actually trying to tame them, I just like to have them in the yard. A couple of them sit on the clothes line while Cecilia hangs the washing. She is a bit iffy about that but they just sit there eyeing her. Their wing span is as wide as Cecilia is tall....Well almost

Yeah mine is tame.. she loves cuddles as well..
My sister had a cockatoo that use to go over to the neighbors clothesline and pull all the pegs off
Neighbour wasn't too happy..
She had to keep re-washing the clothes
You snapped a awesome picture with the cockatoo in motion

He was about to land on the container coz that is where I keep bird seed and he tries to pull the lid off. Tipped the entire contents onto the ground once. I almost had cocky pie for breakfast that morning.

Why am I still not receiving topic reply notifications??
Unusual looking shadow at 10 O'clock just below and to the right of centre of pic in the second largest crater.....I could find the crater name but I am too lazy.
Must be just a play of light.
