Gold Scales -- The best ones. Empty
I am looking to buy a good set of gold scales.
I did a search on this forum and only found the below posted in 2011. have things changed since then or are the below scales still the go, I would prefer a set with a 9 volt battery, is this possible? as everything I run uses 9 volt rechargeable batteries.

I don't want to buy crap I want something that will last if that is possible these days.

Happy hunting, DD.

Something like these is what I use, just make sure you get ones that you can change from grams to ozt (troy ounces) which is what gold is weighed in not just the normal ounces. 31.1grams = 1 troy ounce, where as 28grams = 1 ounce the other way

Some fo these scales will just have, grams, dwt, oz, ct,os make sure you get ones that also have ozt.

Like these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/100g-x-0-01-DIGITAL-SCALES-POCKET-PRECISION-0-01G-/280467516894?pt=AU_Business_Industrial_Medical_Scientific_Equipment2&hash=item414d2aadde

Well there still going strong, and have weighed plenty of gold as well, so they must be good, obviously those exact ones may not be on ebay now but plenty of others are.

Thanks for that Dave.

I went back to your original post and the link still works they are still there on eBay.
bigboystoys $18.39 free postage 702 sold, I had a look at their feedback but it is all
private. (I bl00dy hate that)

This is the link, don't know if it will work here but it does on your original post.

Are these the same scales you have?        Thanks again, DD

Yes I can't get those links to work either.

These are the nearest to the same as what mine are, and have the ozt for troy ounces weighing. Mine have aaa size batteries, it looks like these have button batteries, other than that they look exactly the same.

Yes that's the one Robby,
I just tried the original post link again and that is the same scales that come up for me, the link worked fine, bigboystoys $18.39 free postage 702 sold, but does not look the same as the scales Dave has.

I don't want to be a serial pest Dave "BUT"

Which one do you think No. 1 or No. 2 The 500g or the 100g. I don't like the round batteries much the
AAA batteries are more available.

No. 1  Capacity 500g ----- Weighing units = g, oz , ozt , dwt  ---- Power supply: 2 * AAA batteries

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/High-Accuracy-Digital-Scale-500g-x-0-1g-Jewelry-Gold-Coin-jewellery-Grain-Gram-/201311470124?hash=item2edf19422c

___________________________________________________________________________________________

No. 2  Capacity 100g ----- Weighing units = g, oz, gn, ct, dwt, ozt ---- Power supply: 2 * AAA batteries.

This one has more of these things:-
g, oz, gn, ct, dwt, ozt than the other one, whatever that means.
g= grams   oz= ounces   gn= grains   ct= carats   dwt= Fnose   ozt= troy ounces. How many did I get right?

G'day DooDar

DooDar wrote:I don't want to be a serial pest Dave "BUT"

I wouldn't call anyone a serial pest that wants to find gold and all things about detecting are good questions.  Very Happy

all I can say about the scales is if you want to weigh in 0.01 of a gram then get the scales that go to 100g, it you want to weigh in 0.1g then the scales that go to 500g will be ok.

We have both types and if selling gold on ebay then the 0.01g or the scales that have 2 decimal places for more accuracy are the go.

Also if you have anSDC2300 then you will need the scales that go to 2 decimal places.  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy  as these detectors do find very small gold.  Shocked

cheers dave

PS: I would go for the scales you have as No 2 in your post for accuracy.

Well said Dave. Well you did ask for the best DooDar Laughing  Most digital pocket scales today, are quite accurate in terms of their "weigh in" process, pluss don't cost an arm and a leg.20 years ago I bought the Tanita 1479 model(the model before the 1579) and coughed up $400 for it.That's what a good accurate set of pocket scale, was going for at the time.Keep in mind there certainly wasn't the amount of items for sale over the internet either.Actually their was no internet. Fitness for purpose is the way to go DooDar. Buy what you think will serve you best.

A couple of gold buyers I deal with just use the cheap little $20 Ebay made in China jobs.

Surprisingly, when they weigh my gold it is usually pretty much the same reading I get on my cheap little $20 Ebay made in China job.
If there ever is a difference, it's usually so minute a difference and has often been in my favour. When it's not in my favour I don't care as that large slug of painted lead hidden in the bottom of the pile usually puts me well ahead anyway Very Happy

as an aside, I should mention I've tested my cheap little $20 Ebay made in China job against some very expensive professional scales and found no difference worth worrying about if any at all.

Does the lead really work, what sorta paint do ya use Dulux or Tuabmans?

I know a bloke who lives

Now I don't wana boss ya around (I been readin your posts, so please don't come back with don't then) BUT could ya please change the "Sorry" to:-

"I AM PROUD"
this is not one of those profound but pointless quotes attributed to some dead guy who probably never said it.

Thanks for saying G'day, have a good one ---------- DD

Thanks for your input Kon I appreciate the help.
I know I asked for the best.

I have to be realistic and sometimes that is hard for me - no gold yet - then there is the minister for harmonious relations to consider tooooooooo you know.
Maybe the gold and the bestest scales will come with time who knows.

Please stop posting today Kon, cause I am trying to knock you off the top of the most posts list.
No, tis ok I just had a look i got no hope, my 5 to your 9 I give up you win, 2nd. place not to bad though.
I will try harder tomorrow, by for now - DD

You should not encourage me Dave, you don't know what I'm like when I get on the booze.

I didn't even spot the difference between the 0.01g and the 0.1g but tis a funny thing I was leaning toward No. 2 for some reason, thanks for pointing that out to me.

Usually I just blunder in and buy what I think looks right and then find out tis useless and have to buy again.
Now, if I am going to buy the No 2 scales I will need to know what are dwt's and did I get the rest right?

You have been a great help Dave Thanks ---- DD

Yes you got the rest right and phoenix has answered what dwt is.

The Yanks often talk of there gold weight in Grains and DWT, we in Aussie land mostly talk in grams or ounces/ozt for our gold weights, mind you I wouldn't mind talking in kilos. Laughing

The scales in No2 position in your post would serve you well I think.
