Any idea on a timeframe for the next top of the range detector might be released? I'm considering buying a 5000 later in the year and would be really pissed if the 5500 came out 3 months later....

Discussions with a dealer last weekend suggested, based on nothing but his gut feel, that we could see a new model in the next 12 - 18 months.
The 5000 has been around for quite a while and all technology has moved substantially in that time.
If the SDC takes off and takes sales from the 5000 they may bring a new model forward a bit.
Tell tale sign will be when you see more freebies thrown in with it rather than a big price reduction.
Then again what would I know.......

I imagine a price reduction will come after the release of the next model to clear stock. But I think your right about the freebies.

With the release of the SDC2300 one must ask what they are working on now...

Chriso, Digginerup & Jag are right on this one.We are all hoping for the sooner, rather than latter, but not at the cost of completely missing out on prospecting today.

Im happy with my 4500, I read through all the Codan news/shareholder info and it says that work on the next generation of gold detectors is well underway.
Next generation could mean next model but probably means a radical departure from current design and technology.

I get the impression that any new top line  gold detector release will be at least 12 months away from today as a minimum.

Codan reports also say that they ramped up production of 5000's and then the African gold rushes stopped leaving them very overstocked. (their turnover of detectors fell by up to 80%.) They say they will responsibly convert this excess stock into cash.

Trick is to just keep detecting

I do hope you're right in saying "a radical departure from current design technology" Tributer, cause a 10% jump from the GPX 5000,aint going to save us. Sad

It has to be a 100% jump from a 3000 to a 6000 to make me change. T14 T14 T14

Info should be released on the 18th or 19th of December, depending on which country you are in.

Codan have asked the Patent office not to release info or pictures until the 9th of Feb.
Hopefully i will be out the bush with it at or before Easter.

Sorry about the 3 images. I was lucky to be able to post even one. Maybe a Mod can delete the other two.

Re time frame, it was mentioned on one of the pages that Miners Den said Before Easter.
Hopefully well before Easter. We all know the Specs but what i would like to know is the price of each version.
I think it will be sold like the 7000 was. The money went to Minelab and the dealers got a commission. That was to stop the price being undercut. Some dealers gave extras to sweeten the deal.

Surely that is price fixing, which is illegal !!?? At the very least, it's anti-competitive behaviour !

Thanks for that, do you have a kink to the blurb?
I knew I'd seen some documentation of the weight but couldn't find it anywhere.

Just reading on this site previous coils are compatible but the cords may not work well.

Are they referring to the cable coil plug end, or would the whole cord cable need replacing deutran? Is it a minor or major issue/hinderance? Or could it be that the older coil cables are not compatible with the new detector design?

Good question Kon hope some more info comes out as this would be a major purchase deciding factor.I can't imagine going back to the older style minelab coils. One of the reasons for recently purchasing 2x 12" Evo's was the weight factor,no more sore shoulders, not to mention the nice thin design and rigid construction.Seems like minelab have kept the old coil housings since the 90's.

GPX 6000 coils are chipped inside the coil, this UAE dealer is just incorrect, previous coils are not compatible even if they had the correct plug end.
