Re: Whites Spectra V3i
Yeah im liking it.
Doing the research was a killer, i should have been paid for watching all those youtubes on the detectors that took my fancy.
As its been said, no one detector has it all....im just annoyed this one has no means for PC connectivity making life easier for up/downloading programs ect.
The video it comes with covers a lot of info, and each time i watch it, i always pick up something new......ya just gota bl0ody remember it once your out there.
Pinpointer, that book is it one you downloaded off the net from one of the yank forums.??
If so, i have that one.
If not...rummage your PC and share it round.
The V3i caters for many different styles of detecting....my favorite is the snails pace, where you test your settings and wit over a suspect target. Where playing with the settings causes your legs to tire. Doing this makes the next target all that much easier to predict. Im out there to have fun with it, not prove a point.
Taming this detector so that it becomes apart of your anatomy when strapped on is scary, just when you thought you were becoming friends, it bites you on the rs and shows you the error of your ways.

cougarcans, my missus couldn't give a rah-zoo....its not her back yard.
My sister and hubby who's back yard it is, get in on the act, and also couldn't give a fig. The hubby sent us down to an old homestead of his and told us to rip it up as well. Thats where i got the florins the other day.
No matter how many times i go over this yard, and it aint big...it gives up something from the past. Coins, badges, rubbish, and strange looks from the neighbors.
When it starts to get quiet, i just use a different program and it comes alive yet again.
Went down to me mums place and started on her lawn.....ok so that was met with hostilities to start with......i few chores and all was good.
Old houses that had the old string line cloths lines before the Hills Hoist was invented are treasure troves.
The front veranda where the milk man would drop your change at 4am is another money pit.
Around the dreaded thunder box, the boiler room/wash room that was off the back veranda in the days of the old ringer machines and coppers.
All along the front path leading to the gate/letter box.
In order to win your missus over , and especially if you own/live in a very old house....just show her some old coins that are worth big money. BS on a little about an olden day ring thats lurking around your yard and what its worth.
Or, leave no trace of your dig holes.
Confession time.....i really "dig" this pin pointer thingy im using. (Whites bullseye II )

Hope you find one, just never know what's hiding under all that dirt!
It seems you are having a ball up that backyard

Re: Whites Spectra V3i
Nope, no 1930 penny yet Jen.....only a matter of time before we pull up something worth a quid.
Just love the way this detector slams on coins....on their side or flat, it certainly lets you know about it.
Im thinking this yard may have been used back in the old days as a secret two-up site.

Re: Whites Spectra V3i
Since buying it I've used it 4, maybe 5, times due to work. Not what I had envisioned when I bought it!
Are you using the standard D2 coil?
Are you using the standard D2 coil?

Re: Whites Spectra V3i
Yeah iv used the three coils that came with the missuses MXT... 5.3" concentric...10x6" DD and 950 concentric...but id prefer the D2...may chase up a White SEF 10x12" at a latter date.?? It gets a few good raves here & there.
At the moment tho, the D2 is hard to beat as an all rounder, and i doubt im missing much with it. Pulling bits of foil thats smaller than the GPX is capable of. Annoying really.
Depth for a coin machine has shocked me to the point i walk away from anything over 6"...more than 6" requires a pick, not a garden tool.
Not long now and i'll report back on how it handles the WA desert.

Re: Whites Spectra V3i
Every couple of days i get the V3i out and have a frig.....iv not found any gold with it as such, but from what i have done, its only a matter of time before it nails a bit.
Hot rocks are problematic, but easily identified as a negative number while using the std prospecting program.
I only pull up on a defined signal when working nasty ground, im not looking to test its depth capabilities, just find gold among the rubbish areas. From what iv seen thus far....its only a matter of time.
Having placed a few pickers on the ground, they were easy to find again among the nasty hotrocks... most of us will use our boot to scrape the spot where a target is heard.
There is a setting for hotrocks, iv not fiddled with it as such and doubt i will, and continue to just use my boot....im here for a good time, not a long time.
Some of the old ways of prospecting/detecting cannot be replaced by electronics, old habits are hard to change and im happy to use this method regardless of the functionality of the hotrock setting.
Does it handle the ground here in WA?...yes.....better than my GMT does... but remember, its also using a DD coil and im not looking to dig deep with it, just work the trashy spots, and im able to select one of, or all of the three frequencies it has to offer to suit the nastiness of the ground.
This arvo, i was digging bits of aluminum and molten lead from 4-8" deep in topical WA soil round and old mine shaft. I do this with a GPX-4500 also, its just with the V3i ...i wasn't digging any ferrous targets.
When i get onto a patch again, i'll give it a run and tell you how it go's.

Re: Whites Spectra V3i
Hi Narrawa, glad your enjoying your Whites detector. You should have a look at the NEL 12 x 13" DD coil, if you want something bigger. I have one for my Fisher F5 and it is a big improvement over the standard 10 x 5 1/2" concentric coil in depth and coverage. Also built like a brick out house.
Some air tests using same settings. Gain at 35- max 99 and Discrimination 20- max 65.
Coin ........... 10 x 5 1/2" concentric. .......... 12 x 13" DD......... 12 x 13" All metal
3p.................................5"....................................6"...........................7"
6p.................................5.5"..................................7"...........................8"
1/2p...............................6"....................................7.5"........................9"
1p..................................7".....................................9.5........................10.5"
Shilling...........................6".....................................8.5".........................9"
Florin..............................7"....................................9"...........................10"
50c.................................8"....................................10".........................11"
$1..................................7"....................................9"...........................10"
$2..................................6"....................................8"............................9"
Also tested the Fisher 10 x 5" DD coil and it pretty much matched the standard concentric.
3 coins I found with the NEL 12 x 13" DD on a field I've done half a dozen times before. All around six inches deep.

Re: Whites Spectra V3i
Thx for the heads up on the NEL dude...never heard of-em but will lookem up .
I have the std 9" concentric that comes with the MXT, however, their not the best on this type of ground, ok on some of the ground back east tho. The DD works on the VLF here, but it lets you know its in a bad mood.

Re: Whites Spectra V3i
Yes they're pretty popular in the US. Have a look on the Findmall Forum, NEL coils has it's own Sub-forum.
They are made in the Ukraine and cost about $220 delivered. They're on Ebay. No problem with the post, takes about 2 weeks to arrive.

Re: Whites Spectra V3i
Well...that was today, a nice little .8g bit sitting in the middle of the track surrounded by tin cans and all the other stuff the old timers left behind........................ its only a matter of time before it nails a bit.
Only had about an hr before the sun went down...but have all day tomorrow.
I'll put some pics up tomora if i nab i few more......looking to give the MXT a run over this trash pit also.
The gold found today by 2X4500s and 1x5k combined, does not = what the v3i found this arvo.
Re: Whites Spectra V3i
lenoil
Actually, I just turned the machine on and tested spectra vs. sizing vs. polar, and it seems that the display in spectra mode recovers/updates much more quickly than the other two modes... do you find that, too? Also the polar plot is way too slow to be used as a main search screen, IMO.
Was just going over this thread looking for something when i re-read this above. Ok so im a little late with the answer. ..either that or i probably figured you had found it by now from someone else.?
Anyhow, i'll put it out there just in case your still having problems with it.
Ok, when you have it on in front of you, you should have on the bottom of the screen, "Analysis Display".
Go into it and make sure its set to Polar Plot...now you will see on the right hand side, the Resolution number....the bigger the number the faster the update....the lower has the opposite effect due to the amount of data used along the plot lines...the less amount of dots, the less time it takes to draw.
You could while you have the Res number highlighted...push Menu/Tab together with Zoom/View for a better run down on its working. That go's for anything you have highlighted.
How am i going with it i hear you ask.?
Well its like this.....since being home from the west, im using it again each day. So will try to keep this thread going with finds and findings.
Re: Whites Spectra V3i
Thought id post a few pics of my finds today with the v3i.
