went out detecting today with the minelab 17000 xt
All we found where nails and pc of metal no gold was set an all metal sen full and vol full and thres just enough to hear when you find a target that maybe gold will this detector make a different noise than metal i check all targets and fill in all my holes help please

It will not make any noise different to any other metal. Once you have found a fair bit of gold , you may be able to discern a slight difference - some gold will have a softer more mellow sound. You must dig all signals - this is the golden rule. Pay special attention to the softer and quieter signals, in fact investigate any changes in the amplitude of the signal. Get the 17000 running as quiet and as stable a threshold as possible - so you can clearly differentiate the metal signals from just the ground noise. Work slowly and carefully with the coil brushing the ground - not 2" off it
By the way I found a fair bit of gold in WA in the early 80's with a 17000

Thank you for the reply more or less the faint signals should get louder when you dig if not its only ground noise right boy we found a lot of scrap today but still very interested

With gold detecting you have to put in the hard yards. Very, very few go out and find gold on the first day.

You might have more luck If you upgrade , they were using the XT17000 back in the Eureka stockade days.

Common ! what about the Garrett Deep Seeker ? I still have my XT 17000 but not used it for years.

just tring to get a feel for dectecting and to see if its for me sorry the equip is old but it was free i just wont to know if i was wasting my time hopefuly i will upgrade i was looking at the minelab 705 is that one good for gold limited cash thankyou

The minelab 705 isn't much better then the xt17000, probably the best one under a thousand bucks would be a second hand minelab SD 2000 or 2100
