Hello every one,
I just joint up over the last weekend. I am a fit 66 years old bloke from Tassie and posses a GPX4500 which I only used a few times with little success in the Victoria. About 14 month ago I purchased a CTX 3030 which I just used for the first time last week . I also fossick for Gems and Mineral specimen. I am off to Cape York later next month in an old but modified Toyota Hilux with a slide on pop up camper on the back. I call myself a novice detectorist. I would be grateful for any suggestions for possible detecting sites or good camping spots.
Cheers

Welcome rocknut66 from another newbie to the forum,
Wish you all the best going to the cape but with the severe weather that hits the place in the warmer months I was a little taken back by your going next month. Have you bin there before at this time of year??? Although I've lived in Qld for all my life bar 10 years I've never got to the cape but I've heard some good stories and I've heard quite a few scary ones. Not trying to put you off -- just be careful.
Back in 1946 or thereabouts a Brisbane paper reported severe floods around the Palmer and it went on to say panners were panning the bark on the paperbark trees in the river and were getting fine gold that had been deposited there. Where it tis, there it tis...Come back safe with a big golden grin. .. noyungan.
