SD2100 - Mono or DD for QLD Empty SD2100 - Mono or DD for QLD

Hi all,
I'm looking for a recommendation for SD2100 coil types for use around QLD and more specifically areas within a couple of hours drive from Brisbane such as Nanango, Warwick, Tooloom etc. I'm still learning how to use my detector and have yet to locate a nugget of any kind.
My question is, for small gold near the surface approx 6-8", should I play it safe and purchase a small DD or would I be OK with a mono?

Thanks in advance Very Happy
Terry

Hi Terry
I would try the 11" minelab mono this coil will give you better depth.

What coils did you get with the 2100 when you purchased it ?

Thanks Lee,
Around Warwick there doesn't appear to much in the way of nuggets over a gram but subgrammers are coming out of the pan. I was hoping to be able to pick up the smallest piece possible with the SD2100 but from what I've read, the smaller the coil, the smaller the nugget detectors but with an associated loss of depth.
Do you think that I would pick up the subgrammers with an 8:" mono even better than the 10" and still achieve 6 - 8" depth?

Hi Terry
The 8" mono will give you the best sensitivity & depth, relative to the size of the nuggets, the 11" will give good sensitivity
and better ground coverage, as was asked above what coils do you currently have.

I purchased the unit secondhand. The coil supplied is a GP Series 11" - No idea how to tell if it's a DD or Mono.
They were originally supplied with an 11” Double-D coil.

SD2100 - Mono or DD for QLD Empty Re:SD2100

Hi Bicter,
I'm stretching my memory bank.....I seem to recall that the 11" DD that came with the 2100 had the words"Super Gold Search" on the coil label.....whereas the 11" mono coil had the word mono on the coil(on a black background).
The 11" mono came as an optional extra and the 18"mono green (Kelvar) coil came with the detector.
The 18"was a deep puncher (LEITZ WIRE) and a mate of mine got me on video up to my knees in a hole in Leonora where I found a 12 grammer.(I cut holes in the 18" to reduce the weight down to 720 gms).......this coil is not to be confused with the lightweight 18" green coil that came out with the SD2200.
I suggest you get a second-hand mono "Joey"10" elipitical coil or a new "Sadie" mono which is also eliptical that will give you a good team(in conjunction with your DD) to start with.
Later on you can get a 18" "Dustbin lid" mono and cut holes in it like I did.....you can pick these up for around $40/50.
Be lucky.

Sandy,
Thanks for the feedback.

The coil unfortunately has neither of the identifiers you mention.
Who makes the Joey and/or the Sadie?

Hi terry nugget finder makes the sadie which is a 8/6 i think
Coiltek makes the joey which is a 10/5

I'm not sure weather a dd 10/5 would also be a worthy option , I think it might run more quiet
Hope this helps
Ps maybe someone who has used one could tell you if it has good sensitivity
As I haven't used a small dd
