iPhones - Camera to record finds/GPS (Security)
O'kay, I'm not a techno sort of person, and some of you may already know what an iPhone can do, but this 'feature' was a bit of a surprise to me and may be of interest to others.
You may have read recently where a granddaughter helped her grandmother count a large amount of cash she had and the granddaughter took a photograph of the cash and posted it on Facebook only to be robbed later - http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-05-28/b ... te/4037562
A lot of cameras these days have GPS locators built-in and you may have to consult your manual to turn it off.
So if you are taking pictures of your finds or location of your diggings with your iPhone and send it to someone/a friend or even upload to a forum, the recipient can then save the photo and, if they have TomTom, go to TomTom navigation and select travel to location and select the photo (with GPS location built in). This may even be your home where it wouldn't be hard for anyone to work out you own a detector and may have nuggets worth stealing.
For those using iPhones - to turn off GPS locations encrypted in photos taken with your iPhone
- Go to Settings
- Location Services
- Scroll down until you see Camera and turn it OFF

I wanted to quickly second that motion to turn "Location Services" off
in your iPhone whenever you are not directly using it.
It is found under "Settings."
Not only for the reasons mentioned above - very important those,
but also because it drains your battery surprisingly quickly...

It's not only iphone's that have this issue, any smart phone that takes pictures and has gps/maps generally does this. As Flak said, best to go in settings and turn it off as a precaution.
