Re: Tasmania Club Meeting
Hi Starry
Just found your post regarding a Tasmanian club. I’m interested but won’t be able to attend as I will be away on the big island spending some time in the Victorian golden triangle and then on to Clermont. I will be away for about 3 months; however I will be checking the website from time to time.
I hope that the meeting goes well.
All the best
Dave

Re: Tasmania Club Meeting
Hello all,
Due to the death of my Father in Law I wont be available for the meet at Devonport as I wont be back from Vic until the day after the meet. I will put my reasons that I am trying to get the ball rolling and getting us together here, so that they can be shot down or thought of at the meet in my absence.....and I would like SOME respect shown and be referred to MR silly delusional bugga ...if you dont mind I am hoping that we can get 3 or 4 clubs going which will then supply 1 or 2 delegates from each club forming an organisation which along with the lapidary clubs and the Tasmanian Lapidary and Mineral Association will give us a bit more of a squeak when the greenies start declaring our own backyards as national parks and stop us farting in them as well. So lets get the ball rolling and even if, at this meet a club doesnt start up, I would hope that once everyone has heard what everyone wants that some ideas on how it would work would come about. At the very least we could set a date and location on the next get together. One other thought is that if you do go for a hunt for relics and coins one time that the next be for gold just to try and keep everyone happy....see told you I was delusional

Re: Tasmania Club Meeting
i will defiantly be there, with non conductive bells on.
Low tide is at 11.05am on the day, if anyone wants to detect main beach in Devonport before the meet up.
I met Roger on Coles beach (the next beach west of main beach) a few weeks back, and from the amount of stuff i found and age of it all the area has never really been detected. A great opportunity for some treasure hunting up this way. Im also a member of the Lapidary club if that helps.
have a fantastic night

Re: Tasmania Club Meeting
Hi all
i contacted everyone from local councils to parks, mineral resources, DPI and Tas police Act re treasure finds, access and heritage sites and land access this week. To get a legal framework and legislation to cover the club in Tassie. There are some specific laws covering what we do that could apply. Loitering, as an example is enough to lose everything you are carrying on your person. detector the lot. Treasure finds need to be reported to the commissioner and the location of the find reported within 6 months or as soon as possible. Trespass etc,
Is it okay to dig on the beach on Monday etc. Yes it is. Everyone i spoke to was super positive, Inc Devonport Council and other NW Councils all said zero access in parks because of public liability. But they don't control the beach. Surface stuff in parks may leave a door open in future. Its a good thing to remove sharp metal objects where people go i think. I want to do a map that shows areas, we can access with as little red tape as possible straight off the bat. Aboriginal Cultural sites like the bluff area have a limit obviously.
The Police said common sense with finds. If you find a gold watch with an arm attached, you may be best to report it.

Re: Tasmania Club Meeting
Not sure about Tassie, but I believe here in SA you CANNOT be done for loitering if you are engaged in a 'recreational pursuit', are carrying your ID, or can verify who you are and that you have a legal right to pursue your recreation.
Are there any solicitors &/or their employees here on the site? Try telephone-ing your Legal Services Help Line re. this type of thing. Remember, MANY of these council workers really have delusions of grandeur ... and haven't got a clue!!
Trespass is the same all over ... I'd hate for someone to start digging up my paddocks!
Beaches are weird ... if you want to exercise a horse (here in SA) you may take an immediately direct line from the beach access to the high water mark. You may only exercise your horse between that water mark and the water itself. When you leave the beach you must exit using the same track as your access! Weird!!! But I think you will find that a beach has inherent access rights to the public EXCEPT where the beach forms part of a Private Access, or the activity upon the beach forms some form of danger to the general public ... ie. yahoo-ing in the jalopy, or motor-bike, or dune buggy etc etc
Be careful with the Parks etc ... you COULD still be charged with "Stealing by Finding" if you pick up stuff from the surface of the Park and do not report/hand it in.

Re: Tasmania Club Meeting
My partner works for Dev Council, there will be no issues... I find it highly unlikely anyone will be booked for loitering unless there is reasonable suspicion that an illegal act will or has occurred
If someone wants to come and dig over my paddocks and get rid of all the nails and fence wire, go for it, just watch for the suspicious canines
