Newby needs some setting advice on a Garrett AT Pro
Hello to all.! Back in the 80's as a kid, i had an old Whites coinmaster 5000D and found shi* loads of coins and relics when i lived in Melbourne opposite our house in Surrey Hills Wattle Park. After so many years of wanting to get back into detecting, [now in metro WA], i did a lot of research on what to buy and decided to purchase a Garrett AT Pro.
I took it out for the 1st time last weekend for a couple of hours after briefly scanning the manual and checking out many youtube vids on how to operate it, i thought 'she'd be right.
Not quite so..! Man, talk about confusion with settings.! I got the ground balance sorted, but thats all. I found zillions of bottle caps, foil, metal but no coins!
I set it up to discriminate out metal, then re-set it and worked out what number and tone it was, then fiddled with notch discrimination to knock out foils, that worked, but i found nothing of any value!
Watching youtube vids and other vids on these sites is driving me nuts..! People are finding stuff and i'm not. Helllllppppp....!
I have done lots of research on finding abandoned houses in our shire in the bush around here and have found sites, but no good. Zillions of all sorts of sounds, but no coins.
Can anyone recommend some good settings i can try for this machine before i become more familiar with it please?
You gunna freak with this statement "but i'm not interested in finding gold at this stage", i want coins and relics more-so!
Any setting tips, or anything else that can help me, please let me know..! Cheers!

I use pro mode, custom. Iron disc 40, Iron audio "on", sensitivity 2 from max. Hit the top end TID's 58, 64,76,78,80 are going to mainly your coins. 5c comes up as 48 but so does many pull tabs. I found that pull tabs gave a jumpy tone & TID. Bottle tops - Screw caps, the tone you will hear with these settings will be low-high-low 90% of the time. Bottle tops - soft drink type or Jim Beam stubby etc, will give a high tone with a TID of 80 - 84.
Here's a tip, if a coin is on or just below the surface it will give a very very jumpy tone & TID. More then that of a pull tab. Listen & watch carefully as finding this out and adjusting your hunt will land you a lot more goodies.
Slow your swing & walk speed. Coins that are close to together with a fast swing speed will be mistaken for a pull tab signal.
Follow this advice and you will have the success that I have with the AT Pro. So far this year I've found nearly $200 & I only go out once or twice a fortnight.
