North Queenslanders!!!
Hi All
Just thought it would be a good idea for all those members in paradise to post here, their Location, Goldfield they visit ( general not trying to encourage X marks the spot ), Detector used, Other equipment eg, pan, sluice, dryblower, you get the idea, member of a club or not?
My idea is so that members around the area, experienced or new can discuss idea's with local knowledge, geology, settings etc
Trying to encourage the sort of stuff that goes on in Vic with possible group trips, so if your up for a bit of info sharing NOT SPOT's please post here.
cheers guys & girls
Lee

Re: North Queenslanders!!!
Hi All
I am in Townsville, I have been detecting for about 5 years have had a bit of luck although I don't get out as much as I would like.
I use an SD2200d with mono coils mostly, I also have a Gold Bug Pro but have not given it a good test yet, I also do a bit of panning/ sampling, I also use a small sluice, just starting to build a Highbanker based on Someday's, then I will build a large dryblower, I built a small sampling dry blower a few months ago.
I do most of my prospecting around Forsayth ( 5 hrs drive ).
Man am I hooked on prospecting every spare moment I am doing some sort of research, the history you learn is interesting too.
I am a member of the Townsville Metal Detecting Club & produce the club newsletter, the club is growing very well with 30 new members last year.
Enough about me, your turn
cheers

Re: North Queenslanders!!!
G'day Lee, My Wife and I live 30 min south of Cairns and have been prospecting for about 20 yrs.
We have got a 4500 and a Whites GMT and and have a high banker sluise dredge combo which I made some time ago . Have been to most gold fields in Nq and have friends who own cattle stations which is a bonis. Also like to collect maps and books on geo info and mining history . To me half the fun of the hobby is to be in the great outdoors and to do research on a place, put down some GPS points in and go exploring and if you find some gold that's a bonis. Have not been out much in the last few years due to a serious accident putting me out of action but Im a lot better now and am keen to get back into it. At the begining of the year we have joind the Townsville MDC and will not make it to the first outing but am looking forward to the second. Cheers Greg and Dory

Hi Sheeds
Did I send you a copy of the newsletter? if so have a look at the calender for trips & see if one matches up to your roster, I don't know anything about the detector you have but on up trip upto Long Gully last year a members 16 yr old son found a 1.5 gram nugget with an Exterra 70 so your in with a shot.
Might still be a bit wet when your planning to get away, I'm rostered on that week.

Re: North Queenslanders!!!
G'day Lee, I am in Cairns, have been detecting the beaches for a few years now, but only get out for a few of hours on a sunday. I have a minelab explorer SE. Would like to get into gold detecting, so got myself a Whites TDI pro. But haven't been out with it yet have been getting the feel of it in the back yard.
Have been thinking of joining the Townsville club to get out with like minded people. Thank you for showing an interest up here. I don't know why there isn't a club up in Cairns? I don't know enough about detecting and places go, to start one.
Regards Peter.

Hi Peter
Welcome, by all means join the TMDC this will keep you in the loop as far as Trips go & plenty of guy's with alot of experience.
There is a guy who calls himself Bob up north who is based in Cairns who has tried to form a club up there without luck, he is not a member of TMDC you may be able to track him down through miners den?
I do believe there are a few members of this forum in your area & that is why I started this thread so people get to know who is around the area up here.
cheers

Hi Peter
In Townsville we don't have a suppliers outlet the closet one is in Charters Towers, although we do have places that sell pans, sieves & cheaper range of detectors.
