Sacred (Holey) Plastic Shovel
While watching some you tube videos of other people chasing gold I saw some blokes using a plastic shovel with lots of holes in it while detecting on the beach. It appeared really good because it was strong enough to dig the sand (wet or dry), didn't set the detector off & the sand flowed through the holes really well. They said to ring them (the blokes) on Gold Finders.
What I want to know is: has anyone here used one of these & where might I get one, please?

Re: Sacred (Holey) Plastic Shovel
I have tried plastic scoops on the beach but I do not like them. They take too much energy to push into the sand, more so if it is wet sand. The best is thin sheet metal with thin mesh, if it is stainless steel , that is better. Mine is all mild steel that I made myself many years ago. It is carried in my left hand behind my back, no problems. Remember, the faster you can recover a coin, the more you will find. Don't waste time.

Sacred (holey) shovel
Thanks Mike. I thought the plastic shovel might be better because it would not interfere with the signal but I bow to experience.

The moral to that story is. if the signal an't in the sand, you've got it in your scoop!

If you have it in your scoop, always re check the hole and around the hole. People can loose a few coins out of their pocket, very nice if they are $2 coins....

Holey (Sacred) Shovel
I have learned about checking the hole from watching You Tube & the idea appeals to a lazy bugger like me- I think if you are going to go to the effort of digging you may as well check before filling it back in again, so thanks for reinforcing the idea.
It is a bit like winning the lottery- you can't do it without a ticket!

Re: Sacred (Holey) Plastic Shovel
If I find a coin on the beach, I check the hole again and about 1 meter around, carefully ! I did find 3 silver rings in a small area, she must have shuck them off her towel.
