Satellite tv
HI All,
Thinking about satelite tv to watch the weather and news, does anyone know what sized dish is req'd for out the back of Kalgoorlie or Meeka.I've seen the small dish, about 2' in dia. and want to know if it will do or do you need the ones of about 4' dia. AND, with a Next G mobile phone what sized external ant. would suit for the same areas.
Regards Ron

Re: Satellite tv
The same as the FOXTEL or AUSTAR dish. It's a 65cm made by Hills. I think I pay about $30 each which doesn't include the LNB
The LNB is dearer than the dish but if you want to drop me you postal address I'll mail you one for nix.

Hi All,
Went into the antennae shop yesterday, stand, dish and LNB $150, rec. $220, card $120,cable $2.20/m, no change out of $500, but have seen advertised on the net for $375, is there much difference between the cheaper models, they did also say that when it rains heavily that the small dish can loose reception and then it would be better to use the next size up. Q uestion is, what is a good deal?
Regards Ron

Hi Ron, There are sat.set top box,s that are easy to use and others that leave a lot to be desired. If you are on the road and set it up each time you stop, get one that is easy to do this with. The dish size is based on how much room you have to carry it. And a big dish will blow over in the wind much easer. 65cm is all I use and have not had a lot of trouble..Most sat. rec. are made in good old China anyhow.. There are some good deals on ebay..But if you want to have warrinty and help to under stand what is required go through your local bloke.. I have a STRONG that runs on 12 volt so far it seems ok. $120 for a card is top dollor but once you have it it should last .The trouble is the so called free to air tv is not quite that, you can only watch half of Australia with one card and then you have to ASK them to turn " say the west side on if you are over there or the east side if you happen to be there BUT not both at the same time ???"And if you tell them you are travling it could be turned of each six months.. The dish is the easy bit, some are made of tin and not so good, get your self one from a pay tv installer it will be of better quality. I dont know if you wanted all that info hope it helps..Bob

Dish from Hills - $40 (same as Austar/Foxtel)
LNB - $30 to $60 (could have had a freebee)
Stand from markets or Vinnies - $10 (old projector screen stand)

Re: Satellite tv
Hi all,
Very happy with this deal.
http://www.itechworld.com.au/
The whole package stows under bed when travelling and can be set up within minutes of arrival at remote destinations.
Have downloaded destination co-ords and have recorded them with setup instructions.
The only downside is we are reading less books in the evening after a long day detecting.
Cheers
Peter

I have often dealt with SATPLUS. They always despatch orders promptly and their prices are very competitive.
