gpx4500 in need of a part
Gday fellas, took my 4500 apart last night to just give it a general clean, and when i took the bottom half of the stem off, the plastic twisty handle thing that locks the bottom half solid, has fallen apart and now ive lost the little peice that sits inside it to lock it in. but its just in peices and in need of a new one. does anyone know if miners den or any where sells them seperate, i dont really wana buy a whole new handle setup just to replace a plastic locking thing. or does anyone have one lying about that i could buy??
cheers Gary.

Gooday gazaminer,
I got one last week from Miner's Den in Mitcham. It's called a "twist lock" & I paid $4 for it. You've got to glue the 2 parts together, which I didn't do too well, and it seperated when I was in the bush. Nevertheless I put them back on and twisted it together and it still works...gotta get onto to reglueing it when I remember.

Hi, what do you chaps use to clean the control box around the knobs. Mine is quite dirty but was afraid to use soapy water as box may not like it?

Just brush the panel/knobs/switches with a soft paint brush.. Thats all I do..

Re: gpx4500 in need of a part
Hi, yes we do that, but when out detecting and digging, fingers get filthy then panel around controls goes brown from dirt of fingers. I am in a habit of continually slightly altering gain and stabiliser a tad to best get out of machine. Was thinking of using one of those alcahol wipes like midics ect use to steralise with. That would dry quickly without getting into electrics.

Id be very careful using any alcohol round the control panel... It may damage the screen.
May also damage the text from round the switches.??
Just a thought.

Harb mate, eucalyptus oil is one of the best things for removing stickers...and its an oil = dust magnet.
Smells nice tho and clears ya head.

Re: gpx4500 in need of a part
Give the switches a brush with a soft brush to remove excess dirt, then get a can of contact cleaner (electronics shops sell the stuff) and give the switches and power/lead connectors a spray.
Job done.

Re: gpx4500 in need of a part
I remember when my 4500 was cleaned last...it was the day i opened it from its box.
I have since cleaned it, by blowing on it last time out. (sound of blowing noise heard)
How do you make a blow noise in text.?

Re: gpx4500 in need of a part
I use the pressure pack cans of CO2 cleaner to clean the panels and the lead terminals. The coil and power lead connectors can get grotty and the CO2 blasts out all the grit and then dries off in seconds with no residues. I have used the stuff for ages and have never had any problems.
