Sluicing in Tasmania
well have just been on to the powers to be about continuing to use sluices in Tas as renewed prospectors licence says only hand tools to be used but now new conditions are no sluices , trommels or pumps to be used ,my question to them was I know that we can,t use in state forests ,crown land or regional reserves which are the only places licence allows you to prospect so I asked the question what about on Private Land, land with exploration licence etc with the owners permission and the answer was oh we will have to get back to you as they did not know so I await an answer from them as to whether we can continue to use our gear , I wonder how long that will take as we try to do the right thing

Mick the way it is in Tassie right now my suggestion to you is just jump on a boat and come and live in VIC. It looks like your state is STUFFED. Pal

Sluicing in Tasmania
thats not a bad idea Wombat , its pretty stuffed all the areas we used to go i.e State Forest much of them have now been changed to forest reserve , not allowed to go there now , have got a detecting mate at Dunolly might have to spend some time there , but then again not one mention about using detectors here so we might have to that way as I now have a New Goldmaster

Re: Sluicing in Tasmania
My question is why have our rights to use a sluice been taken away. What is their supposed reason for outlawing the use of sluices. If using a sluice is so 'bad' ,why is it allowed in other states? It looks to me to be just another case of one group's rights needlessly being taken away by another(through governmental means),and this is just not right. Its just not Australian and another step along the way to an intolerant society.....Trevor

Re: Sluicing in Tasmania
Hi Starry. Our Licence is more like it was written for metal detectors. Not traditional prospecting.
I do less damage than a geo with a rock hammer. any day of the week.
N.S.W dont have Prospecting licences anymore. Other states have opened up to small scale miners on larger tenements. We lag behind with too restrictive licencing. If only we had a club or association of sorts to express our views in a logical and demonstrative way. And, push for change.

Re: Sluicing in Tasmania
i wonder if its because the new big banana at MRT "Kim Creak" is the same professional bureaucrat that bent over backwards "with a smile on his face" for the greens and sent forestry Tasmania to the wall? Why the hell would they employ someone with that sort of record? His golf game?
Re: Sluicing in Tasmania
I wonder if these people even know what a sluice is? Perhaps they are thinking of diesel driven 'monsters' that re-align the creeks? Are you guys using hand-driven sluices, or mechanised ones? Perhaps that makes a difference.
