Does anyone have any knowledge of these machines please?
Are they difficult to learn on & are they worth owning?
Cheers, Keith.

Re: MINELAB FT 16000
G'day,
I had one years back.....it found me a lot of gold (the biggest was a deep 4.5 ouncer).....it had the reputation of finding big nuggets deep because of it's low frequency........it was common to see a couple detecting where the wife used a Fisher Goldbug(high frequency) and would find the small shallow gold and then hubby would follow up with the 16000 to find any big deep gold.
It can be expensive to run ( 8x AA batteries= 8 hours use)......so I wired it up using a 12 volt (rechargeable) gel cell.......simple to do !
Hope this helps.
Be lucky.
ps It's also a great beach machine because of it's discrimination propensity.

Re: Minelab FT16000
Hi Gk I used one for a week in Ql some years ago while at Mt Mulligan found loads of nails butons an bullets but it couldnt cope with the mineralised ground so any small stuff just disapeared in to the background noise.

I am located near Coffs Harbour & there is said to be a lot of mineralised ground in the hinterland here & from what I can understand, most of the gold near here is alluvial. However, as an enthusiastic newcomer I plan to have a go anyway, besides, I like history so if I can find some interesting artifacts I expect to be happy, at least initially.
There were around 138 mines registered in the Coramba area alone, many still exist, some have disappeared but some acquaintences have done considerable research & located most of them.
I plan to start on the beaches between high & low tides for the easier digging- who knows what will turn up!
It is a bit like a regular camper to Urunga told me once, about fishermen complaining the area had been fished out- you can't catch fish if your line isn't in the water.
