Yep that sounds like one of our trips.

James,
On one of my trips, aside from a military fighter flight every 2 or 3 days -----------
S i l e n c e _ a b s o l u t e _ s i l e n c e .
Absolutely no sound at all except for the wind, the stream, my pump, shoveling and my muttering when something goes wrong.

how to quantify efficiency ?
Can anyone describe how to quantify the relative efficiency of these and similar devices and their setup/s ?
When I see statements about efficiencies above about 80% etc I immediately ask myself how could I check the efficiency and be confident enough to then go ahead and change the device settings if needed etc. Cheers (total noob here )

Like FJ said test pan your tailings. When trying out a new setup we will place a pan or tub under the sluice and catch all the material we run for about an hour then pan that down to check our losses against what is in the mat.

pan standard
OK - The standard is the pan method where an absence of gold is good. A nice yes/no indicator.
I guess the next step would be to increase throughput / reduce water etc while still maintaining an empty pan. Very interesting.
Thanks.

I was just reading some of the above posts on people saying that others are losing gold ...
