Overlaying Tengraph on a GPS screen
I would like to be able to overlay some Tengraph (WA) maps on to a GPS screen before heading bush. Can anyone please advise me if this is possible? If it is what is the best GPS/Ipad I/phone to use and how can it be done? It would be handy if the device was suitable for use on a quad bike as well as in a vehicle. I realise the maps are constantly being updated to reflect changing details so I would need to be able to delete them as required and re-install updated ones later.
Many thanks in anticipation.

G'day Johnno
If you have got an Ipad with Google Earth on it then you should be able to overlay the same tenements on it as you can with a normal computer or laptop.
Have you tried it like this with a normal computer?
cheers dave

Thanks for the reply Dave. No I haven't tried that on the computer. Don't know how to do it as yet so I had better have a play and try and learn. If there is any quick instruction out there to guide me in the right direction as to how to do it I would be most appreciative. I'm trying to do the right thing in the bush more easily and accurately so as not to accidently upset some lease holder.
Cheers.

http://www.gold-prospecting-wa.com/support-files/tengraphonlinereport.pdf has a chapter "Want to view your Tengraph mapsheet in Google Earth?" & a few other helpful chapters relating to Tengraph & GE.

Re: Overlaying Tengraph on a GPS screen
G'day Johnno
When using "Tengraph" and you have got the live leases/tenements on the screen in front of you for your chosen area, click on one of the leases that interests you, you will see that is now highlighted and you can get various info about it by clicking the "I" button along the top RH side.
Also, to overlay that lease into "Google Earth", go to the LH side top where it says "File", click that and choose overlay in "google earth", click that and follow the instructions on the screen, and in a short time google earth will open with the chosen tenement displayed on the screen.
Do this as many times as you like to build up a display of tenements in your chosen area, remember to save them when you are exiting google earth or you will have to do them all over again.
These chan be copied onto a zip drive or CD and transfered to another computer, or copied to an SD card etc and placed in your Ipad if it has google earth on it.
Hope this helps some.
cheers dave

Re: Overlaying Tengraph on a GPS screen
Hi Johnno
Mate its done on your laptop by using google earth, here is the link to get the google.kmz files for "live and pending" leases in WA, simply select "mineral information" then run mouse over "live/pending" and select the correct format
which is google kmz.zip, then download that file, open it and it will auto open google earth and install itself, that easy.
When you close google earth and it asks you to save click yes...

Hope this wasnt to much like egg head stuff mate.

Overlaying Tengraph on a GPS screen
Brilliant guys. Many thanks. Is there a way to put the tengraph maps on to a GPS with map capability, so that when I'm riding around the scrub I can see exactly where I am in relation to leases?

Overlaying Tengraph on a GPS screen
Detrackozi,
I presently have a Garmin GPS 12 but if it is possible to overlay the Tengraph maps I will purchase a Garmin Montana 650T unless someone can give me advice of something better.
Cheers

You will not be loading any maps on that brick But if you want to stay with Garmin then you could go for the Garmin Montana 650T or any of the other units they offer http://sites.garmin.com/gpsmap62/info/ and even the low end price will do what you want https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=63800.
Keep in mind that you have to have a good knowlege on your computer skills to be able to select and create the map that you wish to load, most find it easy but many buy the gear but thats as far as they go with using all the features they offer.
If you think this maybe abit much to start with then buy the software mapping program Ozi-Explorer http://www.oziexplorer.com/ and use that to learn about creating your own maps and tracking yourself on the laptop.
With any of the above GPS Units you can just load the Tenement that you wish to search in by loading the tenement as a track file onto your GP screen and that way you can see that you are walking or riding within that zone.

Re: Overlaying Tengraph on a GPS screen
Hi all,
Can anyone advise me if Oziexplorer full version or OziexplorerCE can be loaded into the Garmin Montana 650T GPS via the SD Card.
So other maps like Tengraph or Geo Maps can be view while walking around.
If Oziexplorer is not compatiable with a Garmin, can anyone let us know what brands are.
We realise that Oziexplorer either versions can be loaded on to most car navigating systems, however the battery life is only between 3-4 hours,
where most of the hand held GPS battery life is around 12 hours.
Cheers
