New Nuggetfinder Advantage style coils
Gday
I noticed yesterday on ebay that a new type of Nuggetfinder Advantage style coil is being sold, these are in all the regular sizes and configurations but are a solid bodied coil, they appear the same from the top with the spokes visible but have a solid base and then a fitted skid plate.
At first I thought that they had just gone to solid skid plates, you cant really see in the photo's and they did not say so in the description, so I emailed a dealer and they said that they were a solid bodied coil, not just the standard coil with a solid skid plate.
I suppose that there would be some difference in weight, the prices seem to be the same as the spoked ones.
I like the spoked coils but sometimes they do get caught up in branches and litter on the ground which can be a bit of a pain, but at least now if I want a replacement coil then theres an alternative type available.
cheers

Re: New Nuggetfinder Advantage style coils
Hi Stayyer,
These are available now for those that don't like the coil getting caught on obstacles, but the drawback is weight. Pricing is the same as the open versions and weights can be found on my NF coil page.
Nugget Finder Coils
A 16" closed for example at 1080 grams is heavier that a 25" open spoke coil at 1060 grams. Cheers.

Gday Qld Sandy
Thanks for that, it seems that there is quite a bit of a weight difference, for many of us that is why the new advantage open spoked coils became so popular because they are so light weight, but the trade off has been that the skid plates wear out rather quickly, the new style should be very durable I would think.

Re: New Nuggetfinder Advantage style coils
Best thing about the solid ones is the fact that you can tape the skid plate on around the outside whereas the spoked ones still collect dirt and moisture through the spokes on the inside. Well worth the extra bit of weight IMO. P.S I found cloth tape at my local IGA that is identical to the tape that came on my 17" NF Eliptical, it's only $1.90 compared to the $6-$8 most places charge for "coil tape".
