Gippsland area
Hi there,
Have bought myself a 3000 and a pan and would like to hear from anybody who would like to show a newbie the ropes. I live in Gippsland (Yarram) and have visited a few of the local spots (Walhalla, Foster, Turton's creek) with out success- perhaps not surprising. Having said that, I did find an old Plume enamel sign (Stockyard creek) I sold on ebay for 350 and a 1920 penny and pocketknife (Kaffir Hill diggings) in Foster, so have had a little success I guess. No gold however. Perhaps I'll have to head to the triangle for that. I do hope to go to the Grant Historical area near Dargo soon and perhaps Gladstone creek...
Anyway, hello, and hopefully we'll say g'day someday!

Re: Gippsland area
Hi there kilter. Is it stockyard creek at Walhalla? If so I have heard a whisper there are nuggets still being found, something about a saw mill was also in the conversation!
Cheers Chris.

My tribal name is 'Horse that cannot be led to water.' Can find reference to millhouse at Walhalla or saw mill at Erica... close?

Re: Gippsland area
Hi Kilter and Welcome to the forum.I am also quite new in this hobby and have a same gp3000.
I dont know any area there but i am sure the other members would help.It would be much better to post this again in General discussion.
I would suggest you do one day training.I have done one with Prospecting Australia from Bendigo and they are fantastic. You will learn heaps. Also can tag along with other members.
We are organizing a detecting weekend for a Melbourne cup long weekend. If you interested read the post in general discussions or pm Mariner3800.
Thats probably the best thing to do as you meet so many forum members and go detecting and learn a lot.
Good luck and see you around. If you head Melbourne way send me a pm.
Cheers
Also its good to join the prospecting club as they organize monthly detecting trips and you will have heaps of fun and lot of experienced guys to learn from.

Hey tom
I would be keen to do a bit of prospecting with you. I have a 5000 and have waved that around all over the place around here, not much luck so far. Can't say I was expecting to much success, but a day wandering around digging holes is always a day well spent? the leeches are bad at Turtons!! I was up there again a week ago and currently reside in Toora. Probably moving into some good gold country soon though, have no strings no ties may as well get into some good gold country. Think I will just go for a drive one day soon and pull up when the place feels right. I'm starting to get itchy feet! being a new member I can"t post a Email address for a week, so I will check the forum for a reply. by the way An old fella told me to mix up a salt paste and put it on your legs to stuff the leaches up. It did help!! it helped even more when I put it around every point where they enter your clothing, at least for a little while catch ya slippery79

Leeches
Probably should be in another section on the forum but try wearing stockings. Leeches don't like it. If they are really bad use a condom as well. You will work it out.

Walhalla
Hi all
I am new in here but do a lot of panning around the walhalla area have been told you can not pan up there in one lot of paper work and in another you can
I run pans as well as a sluice here home made found works just as well as a brought one
I have pulled a bit of color out of the creeks up around Walhalla and also bruntons bridge area pulled a small nugget up at bruntons
I am planing a trip up the aberfeldy river very soon as have done well up there a few years ago will take the pans and sluice
Might catch up to a few prospectors up around that area over summer as we have had some good rains down here
Hope to hear from a few gipplanders soon

G'day Ant
Mate we've been out a fair bit since your last post here, done ok too with over 50 odd nuggets and some nice sluice gold inc a few pickers
off the bedrock with the GB2 and the wifeys 705.
will prob head back to a spot the missus pulled a .5 from off a dirt track last week, planning to flog the track for 100 meters each direction from
her find, see if it's got a few mates
HH for 2015
