X-Terra 705 hints n tips.
Hi,
I also have an X-Terra 705 gold pack & love it. I quite regularly go to different parks & find up to $50 plus. As for the Gold mode, that's another question.
I used to have an E-Trac & found enough coins to pay for itself. I even found a 53 gram gold nuggett in the Stuart Town area of NSW. This nuggett was laying very close to the surface & a cheep Dick Smith or Aldi detector would have found it.
Now for the kicker, a friend of mine showed up at my place with a X-Terra 705. Of course after consuming a couple of Aussie thirst busters, we got into a debate over who had the best Gold detector. (Me of course - just ask me)
I had a 2.2 gram gold nuggett, it was my place, my E-Trac had found a 53gm nugget & I had over 12months experience with my E-Trac. What hope did Phil have with his X-Terra. He had only been playing with detectors for a fortnight.
I buried the nuggett in the backyard at a measured depth of 5 inches as I didn't want to make it too hard on poor ol' Phil.
We tossed a coin & I went first. I tuned the E-Trac up - it would have detected a threepence at 12 inches. I swung the coil over the mound of dirt where the nuggett was buried - several times. I swung it again for a second opinion but NOTHING, not a sound!!!
Well if I can't detect it, what hope did Phil have.
Phil fired up the X-Terra 705, flicked it into prospecting mode, did a noise cancel, set the sensitivity on 23, sound level on 30, tone level on 22, did a ground balance & headed for the mound of dirt.
He swung the coil across the mound of dirt (any slower & the meat ants would have walked under the coil)
There was a soft but very audible noise when he passed over the nuggett. Just to rub it in, he repeated the test several times. He was estatic, I was depressed.
The big secret for finding gold is: "low & slow."
There is a VERY GOOD posting about using the X-Terra written by a user who has done an exceptional job of explaining everything in laymans terms, located on the "www.findmall.com" forum website. Look under the X-Terra heading & it will be in the first few postings. I very highly recommend it to all X-Terra users - especially ones like me who think they have a fair grasp on things.
Remember: "the confidence of the amatuer is the envy of the proffessionals!
"Good luck,
Gary.

Re: PROSPECT MODE OR A/M MODE XTERRA 705
its the best machine i have used on small targets.
i can not believe how well it picks up on the small stuff or how deep, we gets lots of small nuggets down here, so im stoked..
I get double the sensitivity and depth in prospecting mode with a dd 18.75 kHz coil. Than any other mode. Tracking halves it for me. Patterns also affect my depth and response. The 7.5 coil belongs in the bin.
For parks and beach i use patterns and AM or what ever it takes to make it quiet. Then Prospecting mode to target.
That's after a week of testing this awesome detector out.
