Re: Where Can I Prospect In Victoria?
I don't think you will find that info online, any State Forest of Crown Land in the gold areas you should be OK.
and maybe in some National Parks in Eastern Vic if detecting, pumps and sluice boxes could be a no no in the Parks though. Don't bother asking any Rangers, Penpushers or any Government Body because if you get the wrong person that happens to be Green you will be told NO.

G'day wentforgold and welcome to the forum. Now for your question check out Geovic their maps usually show crown and other types of land. Also check out John Tully or Outdoor Press maps by Doug Stone.
Here is a link to Geovic. Hope this helps.

Yes, I've discovered this as well... one day, I called up DSE (or Parks Vic - can't recall, as one dept kept referring me to another) and was adamantly told that I could detect anywhere, "as long as it's not a State or National Park." I asked about Greater Bendigo National Park, and Paddy's Ranges State Park, knowing that parts of those places are okay, and was told that I couldn't detect in any of it! As soon as I mentioned "detecting," she talked all over me.
I've also been told that NCR's are fine by some rangers as long as I fill in any holes and don't damage anything, and not to go near them by others.
