Thanks Gus, does your missus go detecting with you or are you just trying to encourage her to go detecting, tell here that women make good detector opperators
Hey Legless, glad you got a bit of a smile out of the video, the mrs wanted me to cut that bit out
cheers dave
She has had a few go`s with my detector mate, but being a city girl, she struggles even with a bungy on the standard 11 inch coil. Maybe I should break her in more often by handing her the detector and a few gentle reminders that women do infact make better detctorists.
Im sure Granite will back me up on that one,his missus normally gives him a hiding when it comes to nuggets

WA Trip 2011
Loved the videos, I always enjoy watching nuggets coming out of the ground. Your finding the 36 gram piece was just like being there.
Thanks for sharing.

Well done. Looks good. Just a question did you go over the same area with a bigger coil trying to get a bigger deeper nuget?

Re: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Guys, Love the story, Love the adventure.
I get so frustrated when I see others get onto the gold.
My trip a few months back was a waste of time and money.
I need a mentor to assist .
I would like to 1 day have the trust and faith in what I am doing .
Hope you understand my words.
Thanks for sharing your great trip.

davsgold wrote:jarrahrules wrote:Is Oxalic Acid the same as hydrochloric acid as I have tried that with y little tinny bits but they don't look all that better. Jamie
G'day Jamie
Oxalic Acid and Hydrochloric Acid (HCL) are 2 different things. HCL will eat out ironstone and general dirt and stuff, Oxalic Acid is much more mild and is a salt type stuff to look at and you mix it with water at about 50g / 1litre and let the specie soak in it, take it out every day and scrub it and change the solution every couple of days or so.
Oxalic won't eat the quartz that is attached to the gold but just takes out the orange stain and makes the quartz nice and white.
When finished, soak the specie in a warm solution of bi-carb soda for 5 or 10 minutes to netural any acid, do this with whatever acid you use after cleaning nuggets or species.
cheers dave
Really enjoyed details and photos of your trip Dave, thanks, inspiring me to plan my own after careful research on here.
Just something about oxalic acid if anyone' seeking it. Here in UK you can buy it in tubs (I suppose of about 5-8 litres, even though I prefer pints) from a shop called Howden's that is primarily a trade shop (but the public can buy it there too) that supplies goods to the decorating trade primarily.
People predominantly use oxalic acid for lightening and removing staining (as you do) but from wood I believe. The tubs contain a crystal form that one dissolves in (preferably) hot water to achieve the concentration needed I suppose.
I started using it as it can remove rust stains from metal and from certain white goods like kitchen sinks of the white plastic type where it will remove stains of other types, tea and coffee too, providing the rust stain hasn't been 'set' by the use of bleach, that's AIUI. I think there is some in a product called Barkeeper's Friend.
So those seeking oxalic acid it has more than one use (brightening a tired, stained sink can surprise a partner BTW) and should be available form that type of shop.
I have a question please: what does 'spiked' mean? Is it when some sort of long, vicious thorn impales the side-wall (or perhaps tread also) of a tyre? I have yet to get to the 4WD section to read about preparing for, and the hazards of, an extended trip to the WA bush.
Cheers,
Giles

There tours for WA next year are nearly booked out so you will have to be quick if you want to go next year. They do run tours in Vic as well.

Given you were quite successful, compared to others, what do you attribute this too?
