15x12 mono and 11" mono ?
Hi All
I have a 15x12 commander mono that came with the 4500 I just got (upgraded from a 2200). I hear a lot of good things about the 11" commander mono especially with the 4500. Is it worth getting the 11" as well or does the 15x12 come close to being fairly equal to it?
Will also be looking at getting an 18" mono, either commander or NF and will have the use of an 8" ML mono (was great on the 2200), an older 14" coiltek mono and a 25" mono - and I'm all set to go.
Cheers
Tony

Re: 15x12 mono and 11" mono ?
G'day Tonyde.
You'll find the 11 inch Commander round mono slightly more sensitive on gold bellow the gram mark than the 15x12 mono. The 15x12 will out perform the 11 inch on gold targets say 3 grams and above in depth. Both coils have their purposes in prospecting and if you've got a good quiet working 15x12 mono such as mine which has picked up to 0.1gm gold at a good 1+inches depth,I couldn't be happier than that.In my opinion, unless you have concerns regarding weight factor, to close to call.If you intend hunting strictly on shallow ground, ducking and weaving through shrub and bedrock go with the 11. If you hunt in places which offer both shallow and deep ground go with the 15x12.
Cheers kon61.

15x12 mono and 11" mono ?
Thanks....
I will use whatever I need at the time...better to have more than less I reckon when it comes to coils. I will only have an 11"dd, 15x12 and the 18" - when I buy one. The other coils mentioned are my mates coils who I will be going out with, but can share if he's not using them at the time.
kon61.....What you said is pretty much my conclusion also. I'll stick with the 15x12, and if I want to chase the small stuff I'll use my mate's 8", if he's not using it at the time. I had an 8'' mono that I sold with the 2200. In hindsight I should have kept it, but I wanted the 2200 sale to look good with extra's. BTW the wife of the fellow I sold it to found a .09g nugget at the Laanecoorie weekend just passed. Small....but she was happy.
Anyway.....Between us I think we have enough coils for this trip. Can't wait to get out there with the 4500.

Hi Guys, You can never have too many coils. They all each have there use. That is for sure. I prove this to myself time & time again. Once I find a patch I can go over it again & again with different size & configureation coils. Round & ellipticals & still pull gold off it. Blows me away some times. Bigger coils for larger deeper gold, medium size coil for smaller gold not so deep & smaller coils for the small to tiny gold on the surface or not too deep. Bed rock down to several inchers. Best to cover all avenues when you hit a patch of gold. Leave no stone un turned. By doing that you can sleep well knowing you gave the spot your best effort at getting all it could offer you with the coils you have.
Happy hunting

Re: 15x12 mono and 11" mono ?
tony, may i suggest the NFA 16" mono over the 18".
i have an 18" and find it quite awkard to use. the 16" gets almost the same depth as the 18" and personally i think it is just an easier coil to use.
If you want to buy an 18" mono. i can sell u mine at a reduced cost than new, it has seen hardly any use.
PM me if interested.

G'day Goldbait, Mate you hit the nail on the head with your comment that the 16" ALMOST gets the same depth as the 18". ALMOST is & can be the difference between getting gold or not as you could have ALMOST got more gold with the 18". It could be another couple of inches that the 18" WILL go deeper & I wonder how much gold you may have missed that is on the very fringe of your 16" & just beyond it that the 18" would have got?? I cant see a hell of a lot of difference in weight & user comfort or uncomfort between the 16" & 18". Have you tried a hipstick? I can swing my 18" commander coil all day with a hipstick & that isnt a light coil compared to a NF 18". Good luck out there.
Happy hunting

Sorry Goldbait..........If it had been a month earlier I would have taken you up on that. At the time I couldn't find any on Ebay or the forums so I bought one from Reeds. The 18" mono is what I found the bit of a reef? with. https://golddetecting.forumotion.net/t5579-oops17oz#49538
