ADVISE ON CHOICE OF SD2100 FOR $1200 OR GP3000 FOR $2300
Hi fellas Ive eh upped my pricing of detector and have been given 2 choices locally . First is a SD2100 for $1200 Or a GP3000 for $2300 . What would you choose as this is my first detector , both are PI's arent they ? Ive decided on doing a course up around the Golden Triangle to help too . Any advise on who to contact for this would be good too . Thanks for any advise .
Looking forward to getting out there in the bush

Hiya there,
Most people on this forum say get the best you can with the money you got, then borrow some money and get the next model up from that...
Ive read that the GPXs are better on hot ground than the SDs and better on smaller gold...
If you want go for a drive to the triangle, call coiltek maryborough first as you will find they have similar prices (SD2100 - $1100)...3 months warranty and the day course thrown in...what extras do you get locally?
3000s have gone on feebay for $2250-$2300 with at least two coils and all the extras...
Don't forget to check trading post and gumtree as much as you can....
Good luck

hi, If you can afford it, go for the 3000, 2100, is ancient and with so many new model around you have very little chance, It is already difficult enough to find gold even with a recent model.

Re: ADVISE ON CHOICE OF SD2100 FOR $1200 OR GP3000 FOR $2300
Hi,
As a new member (my first touch with detector was on Saturday) i was told to buy whatever i can afford.
I bought gp3000 and used it for a couple hours. Its easy to use and some of more experience members are alwAYS willing to help with setting and some advise.
I also hired the latest machine 5000GPX and using it at my very first day on our Laanecoorie weekend i realized what they were talking about.
If i did not buy Gp3000 i would probably buy 5000gpx straightaway.(there is saying "try before buy" for a reason).
(Just for a price indication i paid my Gp3000 $2000 -with all other bits and pieces.)
There are things you should be aware too:
How often you will use the detector? (Do you need a $5000-$6000 detector sitting at home),
Will you like the hobby?
Your expectation of this great hobby?
My personal approach and idea about any hobby( i collect old coins and banknotes) is that every hobby COST MONEY.It is not a job its a hobby.
It is a great hobby and you will meet great people here.
Good luck.

Dammit. Bought 3000 a couple of months ago on ebay for $2500 and only had 1 coil. Sounds like I could have done better. Oh well, live and not learn is my motto.
