Keen rookie needs help
Hi Guys,
Just became a member and it certainly looks like I came to the right place when it comes to gold hunting.
I'm looking at getting a detector and have my sights set on a 5000. I'm currently based in Katherine but was wondering if any of you could point us in the direction of a good dealer who'd be able to help us out with a 5000?
Also, any tips would be helpful as my gold hunting skills are somewhat lacking?
Cheers

Re: Keen rookie needs help
I bought my 5000 from Nuggets from Down Under (google search will find them )
Top service, friendly staff and very helpful.
I think you are making the right decision in getting the 5000. More expensive than an earlier 2nd hand model, but really, i think this machine is easier to use.

G'day Buzz. Welcome to the Forum.
Although I haven't as yet upgraded to the GPX5000 myself,if your serious in prospecting for gold(meaning putting the time in etc) as Goldbait has stated you'll definitely be making the right decision by buying a 5000,which will give you the best chances of lobbing on to gold.
Cheers kon61.

Re: Keen rookie needs help
Thanks guys, I'm keen to get into it so I think I'll go for the 5000 as everyone who seems to have used it has had success.
I contacted minelab direclty, but due to them not selling direct to the public they've given us a list of shops who sell their products, will have to see if any of them give us a good deal.
Cheers again.

Re: Keen rookie needs help
There should now be a new store at Laverton for you to check out if that is some what near you.
Steve (madtuna) and Linc run this store and between them they would have 50 years experience detecting.

Re: Keen rookie needs help
Thanks guys, I'll check them all out.
Here's a dumb rookie question...what do you all do with your newly found riches? Do you sell it, melt down or what? Just curious as to what path is normally taken after the initial find?
Cheers

G'day Speciman,
I guess at this poing, like most things I've collected/invested in, I'll probably hang onto the first lot I find and then try to make some $$$ on the rest. Are there places where you can sell gold nuggets? I know it seems a little premature to be asking such a question, but if I'm going to be buying the GPX 5000 and putting the hard yards in I'd like to make some money back. I don't think I'd make a living off it (although that would be awesome!) but I'd like to make some return.
Oh and by the way, I'm going to check out a couple of sellers of the GPX 5000 up here in Darwin...we'll have to see what the get back to us with.

I'm very close to making the plunge and buying a minelab GPX 5000, was just wondering if any of you would have some advise when purchasine this type of detector?
In addition to this, what else do you guys take with you when you head out prospecting?
cheers
