Old timers information
Here is a request.
So, close by i have a gold field which had its rush back in the day. Obvioulsy people had leases and with leases there would have to have been a map which identified each lease and who it belonged to.
Gold and Ghost lists certain gully's, creeks, and names that are no longer used in todays modern world.
So, Where can i obtain a map of the leases of the area, and where can i obtain a map of the area that was drawn up 100 years ago.
Surely they exist, but where do i find such things.

Re: Old timers information
QLD department of mines and energy have an interactive site for tenements both current and historic, also the site has maps etc, you will need to click on various links to work it out, as like most government sites they are not that user friendly for us general public.
Here is the link http://www.dme.qld.gov.au/mines/tenure_maps.cfm

Do you have that google earth program that shows you all the old gold mine sites Queensland wide

Re: Old timers information
MDP. yeah, i have that. but what i was chasing is a map showing me the origional leases from the origional prospectors that applied for those leases.
Reason behind this is i can then match up with G&G more exact locations and because G&G uses map names from 150 years ago, i will have a better indication of where these locations are when i overlay an old map with a current one.

Re: Old timers information
Hey Goldbait I am not sure what MDP is, but do you the Historical Mines data base for your computer that you overlay with Google Earth, I use to read GG here in Bundy and it only listed one mine in the area I travel to, but since a friend of mine put me onto Historical Mines data I have since found 5 different diggings in the one area spreading out in a 1 km area.

Re: Old timers information
I have found the historical co-ordinates data base for historical mines to be, dont get me wrong Gold and Ghosts is a great read, but with the data base you can find old mines that arent even listed in Gold and Ghosts, and with a good GPS you can find any mine within a couple of meters.

Re: Old timers information
Yeah mate I have spent many hours researching where to get the information. If you want to get real serious go to the southside of Brisbane and go to the Queensland State Archives and all the information you want is in there and I mean everything all records dating back to the beginning of Queensland and all Mines Data.

Re: Old timers information
Good old Bonzle database can give you a bit of information as well.
http://maps.bonzle.com/c/a?a=br&o=39739271
A bit of information can also be found using the Trove (old newspapers) as well.
http://trove.nla.gov.au/
You can sometimes narrow the search by using "your subject" talking marks.

Re: Old timers information
Hi goldbait, I was just going over a few old posts tonight & came across your post about the cawarral area. I went for a drive around that area aswell as mt chalmers this afternoon but being not sure of where to start I just went site-seeing. Did you find the info you were looking for? Do you have much luck when you head out around that area? (somewhere to detect & any yellow) thanks in advance, Bushy. (I detect by myself as I don't know anybody else with the bug.)
