Gold around Melton, Vic?

Got a chance to be around Melton tomorrow for about 2 hours. Thought I'd stick the detector in the boot and try my luck. Anyone know if there's anything in close distance to Melton?

Hi Costas every time i go through Anyhonys cutting and see all that pipe clay it has me thinking

Having lived in the western subs of melb for over 30 years and have never heard any reports of gold in or around Melton. Anythonys cutting has not popped up either. Lots of wabbits and rabbit holes there thou. If your still after a detect in the area Steiglitz would most likely be the closest place to find gold. However you would have to check if detecting is still permitted in the area. I recall reading that you can still pan there however, I also recall reading on here somewhere that Steiglitz was off limits.

hi all, just lettin you no , there is historical gold fields in melton vic.au
but for some reason it s been taken out of the records??????? in 1971.... i been to the council, ask etc but the deney its there, but trust me ive done my research n yep there down there...
the goldfields in melton lie to the north of horjaths rd ,in the dejerrwarrth water catchment reservior, n was worked in 1800-1900 during the gold rush...
n re worked again in the 1930 grate depression... i have been trying for a while to get to it but its fully fenced off by melbourne water... no tresspasing etc...
i rang and asked to get permission to go there to get access using me miners write.etc .. n being a local person... n i kind of won as i said to them its the queens land not melton councils or melb water... so
i had a msg left on me mobile by some high person from melb water asking me how i got this info, rg the melton goldfield??? some one had removed it from the records in 1971 unknown???? hmmmm
so i took me print off report i had found in the old archives after a far bit of research, an yep i have the proof.. n i should them down at the melton council chambers... they were speach less... ?????
n ive recently been contacted by the melton historic society because they would like to no as well. so there ya go......

The PMAV is asking for the vic government to open up Lerderderg again for prospecting. Lots of old mines there.

Do any of those creeks run down into the reservoir?

be very nice to be reopened again.... its full of mines an a lot of nuggets come from around there... only a couple of weeks ago i went to bacchus-marsh dpi n was asking them were exactly is the banned area for this
Lerderderg stuff due to the fact ive been to gisborne,when ive seen Lerderderg signs, back of melton, toolern val, Lerderderg signs bacchus marsh, Lerderderg signs, blackwood - trentham, Lerderderg signs, comidai n pyrite forrest, Lerderderg signs so whats going on????
so i said how can all of these area be the same???? an ya no even there at the dpi they couldnt really give the exact position your not allowed to prospect on ...????
so i think even there confused..... lol but they did tell me not in bacchus-marsh like the Lerderderg gorge etc an one side of blackwood??? but as for the others they can not confirm or deniy???????
so if any one can make some sence out of this it would be grate...

Apart from the Coimadai antimony mine there isnt much shown on the vic gov website that would indicate gold that far east of bacchus.

I suspect the people you spoke to went into a flap because of the focus on coal seam gas - they probably thought you were fishing for mining info to get a precedent.

All the good gold in and around Melton is under Basalt Rock well under the older Volcanic flow and since then there has been a new layer and the only way to see what is there is though drilling just research your Geochemistry reports.

Yes there is a few shallow pockets about but not much good for a Detector.

You need to look a little north and north-west like Bullengarock

thanks mate very good post.. how deep ya recon the gold is..???? coz i worked out for me to dig to 70 or 100ft digging around a mtr squre a day would only take roughly 3 to 4 mths... n i can see gold there on that map so im young n id love a good diggin project like 10-15 min away from home... looks like im gana have to dig like the old boys... lmao
any one interested in doing some small scale mining??? or got some ideas in the best way to do this...

I am in the melton area and am realy keen to catch up with people that are up for the hunt . Im keen as to suss out this Melton diggings and not afraid to fail .
