I'm just trying to tee up some spot's to prospect on the Macquarie river as I've fished most of it from Bathurst to the dam and found a few old mines!
My question is can I prospect freely between the river bank and the land owners fence line as sometime with the harshness of the land there can be hundreds of meters between them?
P'S thats my first post yay for me lol!

Hi Hoffs Gold & welcome,

I think your ok to prospect these areas, like fishing no one own's the rivers as such so your free to go if you don't need to cross private property to get there.
I'm guessing your thinking of headding up the bridle track or the like and yes theres plenty of old activity along that area, towards (burrendong dam?) access gets a bit more restricted and you may have owners permission to some spots which would be the go up there, but.... what you need to let us know is what method of prospecting are you considering, detecting, panning, or whatever.
Anyway really to answer your question, yes I think your good to go from the river to the fence line, this used to be about 3 chains (66') from high water mark as far as I can remember.
Cheers, Phill.

I have a few property owners that I deal with when fishing from the mouth Turon to the dam but I'm yet to talk to them about prospecting!
But I'm sure they'll be sweet there real nice people.
And once again thanks', I'm a full on green horn so the more help the better and you guy's have been great!

hey hg,

That sounds great, the folks at nfdunder are real nice people you will be rapt when you get your 5k!
Area below turon would be fantastic to swing over, some big gold from there in the past.
The forum here is the goods with some real good people and plenty of experence, really anything you need to know or want more info on will be either on here or most likely can be answered by someone.
Ophir would also be handy for you.
P.S. Thats how I started, I also used to fish that area a lot.
Cheers, Phill.

Hit the nail on the head there Phill,

The people I've met at nfdunder have been great,
It's funny I've been researching prospecting for about 10 years been in Orange for 5, and Hamilton Vic before that, and I was sitting at home about a month back when I first learnt about nfdunder.
And I thought stuff it time to give this a crack, so with that I get hold of Steve and he says get your backside over to Mudgee for a coffee so I did never been to Mudgee but I'm so happy I did!
Steve is awesome and makes a cracker cupper we had a good yarn and now I'm pulling funds from all over the shop to get this going!
I'm guessing your the same as me chasing that all mighty cod in the river lol I love my fishing me and my mate pulled over a hundred cod out of the river last year all catch and release good times.
Got a nice one last week around 12 pound, but next time I’m out that way I’ll be waving a stick not casting one I hope!
Have you got any nice fish out of the river Phill?

Cheers Hoff,

PS If my gold finding luck turns out to be the same as my fishing luck I’ll find lot’s of small stuff but never crack that big one Laughing

HG,

If you snag a 12 pounder with the GPX you will be doin more than allright!! Very Happy
I was still waveing the stick when I was fishing.... Sage's, all 5 wieghts, all fly, mostly trout, all catch n release. In hindsight I should have got a SD2200 instead back in those days, would most likely been financely better off, but no richer!
The days on the rivers and dams were good days indeed.
Nowdays I carry a handspear for the carp in the Macquarie, Turon, Abercrombie etc etc.
Some of my best fish were from Thompsons Ck Dam, but I did manage a nice yellabelly from Windamere late last year about 10-11 lbs.
Steve is certainly the man, didn't know about the coffee thing but if he's half as good at that as he is on the gold you would get a bloody good cuppa! Kim and Linc. are lovely too, and soooo good to deal with, they are certainly my first port of call.
Funny how it seems a lot of people who are into the gold are or were also into the fishin'.... I think its the similar grounds that these two pursuits take us. I said for donkeys years when we were out and about "this ground looks like it would have gold in it, should try to find some! but apart from a bit of a pan here and there nothing serious until I met a bloke with a 4000 and he showed me how it was done, from then on it was game on I can tell ya.
Gold feaver bites hard... beware!!!!
Good luck, let us know how you get on with you 5K, and say hi to Steve from me when you see him!
Cheers, Phill.

Good hunting and thanks for the yarn!
