Can anyone help a new bloke out? Heathcote area.
Hello everybody, i hope i put this in the right place this is my first time joining a forum.
I was wandering if anybody had any info on the heathcote area? I have an old minelab gold detecter and was hoping to try my luck out the bush. I have already dug my backyard up and found several coins and bullets and other such things but would love to find a nugget even if its small.
I tried to find some info on the area and couldnt come up with much but did manage to find a map of an area called "one eye" that another member has posted. I was wandering If anyone knows this area and if it would be worth having a look around or if i would be wasting my time. I hear people talk of a place called the "purple stump" wich was a stump painted purple but no longer there at one eye, does anybody know of this. I know i may be asking a lot as people dont like to tell you were to find the gold, but i just need pointing in the right direction. If somebody could please help me out it with any info on heathcote would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks in advance

Re: Can anyone help a new bloke out? Heathcote area.
G'day Murachu, I gave 'the New Guy' specific details of where his best possible chances lie in Heathcote environs....he's a new chum to gold detecting as well as the district...
He was not aware of Doug Stones maps which at least give the history of where the diggers found their gold.
I've got a landowner mate here who has given me exclusive access to half Kilometre of the McIvor Creek...close to where the action was for the estimated 6000 Chinese who were camped near the McIvor...just waiting for the waters to subside.....hasn't been touched in the 12 years he's owned it!.....and now they are talking another week of rains and possible flooding but not as bad as January...<.it never rains but it pours!>......there are huge areas to detect in The Argyle and One Eye with large tracts of it still looking like 'The Somme'....where do you sluice..near the Forde?.....
Talking about One Eye...I think its time our member HobosGold told us all where that 'purple stump' he has mentioned used to be in the One Eye where he got some bits.....co-ordinates will be sufficient mate.....and dont tell us it used to be next to where the yellow tree used to be....
See you out there... I drive a green Discovery with S.A. plates if you see me come and have a chat mate..
Looks like I will be here till October now, wife now doing further studies at Bendigo >supposed to be on round Australia trip got this far from Port Lincoln, which has taken last 12 months...I've got the time, at my age I'm only waiting for death...LOL.....Hoo Roo

Heathcote area - Hedley's Dam - S36 57.678 , E144 42.689
Hi The New Guy, invest in a few maps like suggested but one place of interest to me in Heathcote area is " Hedleys Dam Tk" area. GPS co-ordinates if you have access to a GPS, take you directly to the spots. S36 57.043 , E144 42.626 , Hedley's Dam Location - S36 57.678 , E144 42.689. I was there a few weeks back and will be back soon

...and Hedley's Dam Track leads to Dirty Womens Gully and creek where you should find some small bits around the broken quartz... .
