Would love to tagalong with someone on a trip to Hill End!!
Having never been to Hill End, if anyone heading that way and knows the area and would like some extra company(please) send me an email or message. I live in Berkeley near Wollongong and am free most Fridays and weekends. Usually only go to W.A. once a year but am getting eager to have a swing before my next trip. Have a 4WD and am totally self sufficient so wouldn't be a burden. A vid from my last W.A. Trip

Re: Would love to tagalong with someone on a trip to Hill End!!
Long way to come from QLD. Not to far for me. Will be heading out in the next few weeks for a look around just to get to know the area and do some 4WDing. Anyone suggest some Hill End sites worth visiting why I am there? Any good(hard) 4WD tracks?

Steve,
whilst not a difficult track by any means, the Bridle track from Bathurst to Hill end is very scenic, with plenty of grassy camping next to the river, if that's your thing,

Thanks Phil
I'm more of a hardcore 4wd enthusiast but will definitely end up on that track at some time even if it's just to explore the area. I read on another forum that the track had been closed part of the way along due to a landslide.

G'day Steve,
AFAIK the track was blocked on the 8th of November by the rockslide ; I would have thought the council would have cleared it before the school hols, but I have been wrong before ....so I keep getting told .....

Re: Would love to tagalong with someone on a trip to Hill End!!
hi guys,
I'm look at heading to hill end on Australia day and will stay untill sunday if anybody would like to join us, it will be me the misses and a 2 year old.
I went there for a few hours back in november to scope it all out, I did not have any luck but thats to be expected if i'm only there for a few hours Thus this will be my first trip there not sure where exacly to go once there but it will be fun never the less.
I asked at the old musiem, and they told me that you could only go by the creek or the river to look for colour. this trip i'm planning to check out the crown land north of the town. I have a 4wd and am fully self sufficent.
send me a email

Bridal track still closed at monaghans bluff on 17-1-2011
You can get around by taking fire trails (fingerpost) its pretty hard core (I had the misses hanging out the passenger door to try and keep the Landy on its wheels at one point- and no shes not that big) (the misses that is) but our greatest challenge/toughest bit of the track was getting past the !@#%* at Bruiinbin it's a gazetted road but don't try and explain that to her! I woud suggest goin past the "range" and try comin out at Willow Glen. Goin to Mudgee Tuesday may come back through Hill End Aussie day?
Cheers mate.

Re: Would love to tagalong with someone on a trip to Hill End!!
They sound like my sort of tracks Phill. Big tyres, Dual lockers and a few other bits and pieces on the truck . May have to come back that way when I go on my exploration trip of Hill End. Have my Doug Stone Hill End Goldfields Map in hand so won't be long. Very informative map by the way. Will heed Fly_Dirt's warning regarding private property. Don't want to step on toes first time out there.

Re: Would love to tagalong with someone on a trip to Hill End!!
so you guys have a permit to fossick in that area? I am still confused about fossicking in NSW. If i wanted to fossick in glenn innes i need to get a permit? then if i decide to drive down to hill end i need another one?
this thread is still confusing lol https://golddetecting.forumotion.net/t2446-permits-nsw

Re: Would love to tagalong with someone on a trip to Hill End!!
Much easier IN W.A. A miners right and 20a permit if required and you are good to go.
Too many rules, regulations, permits etc in NSW. Someone mentioned you will probably need one to bushwalk shortly. I don't think that is much of a joke the way things are going.

Re: Would love to tagalong with someone on a trip to Hill End!!
ah ok. so do you have a permit for that specific area to fossick? or doesn't anyone worry about it anymore for NSW? it seems its only state forest land you need a permit for but not crown land?

Re: Would love to tagalong with someone on a trip to Hill End!!
Razgo, You don't need a permit to fossick in NSW whatsoever, you are supposed to seek permisssion from NSW Forrestries to go into State Forrests and pay a fee. If it makes your feel warm and cosy to do so then by all means go ahead (and try). In over 35 years of poking around in these places generally on a weekly basis I personally have NEVER ONCE meet any form of fun police, your chances of winning the lottery would be better. This has been discussed on another thread on this forum somewhere which basicly boiled down to the fact the authorities haven't got a clue themselves.
Goldfinder, lockers are the way to go allright, but knowing you vechicles limits is what it's all about I'm sure you will agree!
Cheers guys. PS. No Worries.

Re: Would love to tagalong with someone on a trip to Hill End!!
Too right about knowing vehicle limits. I have been having fun 4WDing for quite a number of years and my intentions are always to bring my vehicle home undamaged. I still like to push the limits but size up the situation before taking the leap. The only time I have had troubles is in my previous Patrol with ABS which is fantastic on the black stuff but dangerous on slippery steep inclines. Try stopping a 3tonne car when the ABS decides it is better to release the brakes for me. Two feet on the pedal arguing with the ABS about whether the brakes should be on or off. No thanks. Needless to say my current Patrol does not have ABS.

Re: Would love to tagalong with someone on a trip to Hill End!!
phill, its not about feeling warm and cosey. just trying to do the right thing and not get fined. thus the question if any one actually had a permit to fossick in these areas. good to know no one is being policed or harrassed in NSW then and i think i was being confused with Vic permits.
