Detecting in wash
So, i live in CQ and obviously we have had a lot of rain.
This flowing water through creeks has moved gravel about and in to piles next to creeks and in the water cutouts.
Are these good areas to dig, will gold have been moved with the gravel piles which were not there before.
Should i also follow where this gravel has come from for a quick swing?
Regards

Re: Detecting in wash
When the water goes down .....
If it's a recognised gold bearing creek I'd be out with my highbanker on the inside bends.
If the creek was also located in nugget country I'd certainly be having a swing as well.
You never know unless you have a go.

Re: Detecting in wash
Gday Goldbait
If you are familiar with the area then I would target the parts that I know are gold bearing and that I recognise as have being changed by the water flow, a lot of the creeks and gullies would have had the walls collapsed and areas exposed that were perhaps a bit too deep to detect before.
Some that were thin creeks are probably now a lot wider and deeper, and I would be targeting any part of it that I could access with the detector, there are most likely spots of deep wash containing nuggets that were covered by metres of overburden that are now easily within the depth range of your detector.
It would be like all new ground in some areas so I would not be surprised if there are some really good finds about in the near future and once people have dealt with the aftermath issues and are able to get out and about a bit more.
cheers

Re: Detecting in wash
Well, detected the wash today, was quite interested to see bedrock showing under the gravel and all the wash at teh bottom of the hill. however only managed to find junk. few small pieces of steel, and 1 small .22 mushroomed bullet.
On another note. i got access to some private land.
