Gold nugget cleaning (AliBrite)
I recently found several smaller gold nuggets in W.A (Kalgoorlie region) which were quite dirt stained, and after much research on the internet, have successfully cleaned them by soaking them in AliBrite for at least 3 to 4 days (longer if neccessary) and then soaking them in Bi-Carb Soda for at least one day,to neutralize the acid, and then soak them in Cloudy Ammonia for at least another day, which gives them a nice sheen, and then soak them in clean water,over-flowing it regularly, for another day at least..A rather long process, but very successfull..niftynev48

Re: Gold nugget cleaning (AliBrite)
I just stuff the bugger in my mouth and lick the dirt off! When I get home it's into the ultrasonic cleaner if the spit polish didn't work.

"Many a true word spoken in Jest"......a mates wife was out at "REEDY'S PATCH", and got norcardiosis from the soil....spent six weeks in intensive care whilst her major organs started to collapse.....the medicos only just managed to pull her back from the brink !

Google 'Buttworms' while you're at it. That's how kids get worms... by putting their dirt laden fingernails in their mouths. I was talking to a married couple who detect Hill End with their new 5000 & 4500 last week and they told me how an elderly local was putting nuggets in his mouth to clean them. I hinted that this wasn't a good idea due to all the Cyanide and Mercury in the ground there and they replied that the guy had some sort of Lymphatic cancer and was spending his relaxing (last?) days with his own 5000. No idea if the two issues are related but there you go. Norcardiosis is a new concern though.

Re: Gold nugget cleaning (AliBrite)
Hi Guys
I contracted hepititus A from putting nuggets in my mouth 10 or so yrs ago, it started to shut down all my vital
organs and i was well on the way to the "final patch in the sky" before they picked it up and found the
reason was sucking on bacteria coated nuggets.
Phew! i can tell you its not to good being on deaths door 500klm from the nearest road and deleriously sick..

Re: Gold nugget cleaning (AliBrite)
Gday
One of my mates picked up a nice shiny smooth 2+ gram sunbaker one time and after showing it to us popped it into his mouth, on seeing that and the fact that we had scoured the place and found nothing more I commented that the piece he had must have been pooped out by an emu.
He said "what" and I told him that emu's will often swallow stones and sometimes nuggets to help with the digestion of their food and that shiny smooth sunbakers are more often than not pooped back out after some time in their guts, well the look on his face was priceless and the nugget came out faster than it went in.
We then told him that you can contract a disease that will effect your eyes due to the emu's bacteria on the nuggets, as it turned out he later had eye troubles, but that was due to a detached retina and nothing at all to do with that nugget, sure had him going for awhile though.
cheers

Golfers shouldnt lick their balls cos they can get really crook from doing that, fertilizer coupled with spraying noxious weeds can be picked up on their balls after being struck with an oversized head!!!!!!!!!!
