external speaker
Has anyone made or used an external speaker = boosted or not = made by someone else ... not ML or etc that works good, as if I start spending more money at the mo, the other half (minister of war AND finances) will go off!
so I am looking at other alternatives reasonably priced

Re: external speaker
You did not say what type of detector you are using, I have two that I used on the GPX4000, but no longer use because I now have a 4500, They both work well on the 4000, one is made by coiltek and uses the power from the 4000 battery, the other is by BZ technologies and needs batteries. The BZ technologies will work on headphones or speaker, but the coiltek one is speaker only, which is part of the amplifier.
If you are intersted make an offer, but neither were cheap and I will not let them go if the offer is not big enough.

Re: external speaker
I bought a 2.4ghz wireless headset from radioshack. Brand is "Auvio". Works splendidly, with zero EMI and zero lag.

Re: external speaker
The model number is 33-283 and the battery in the transmitter is permanent and rechargeable. The headset requires 2 AAA batteries. These can be alkaline or rechargeable. You just flip a mini switch inside the battery compartment indicating which type youre using. If you plug the headset into the charging cable with alkaline batteries installed...well...you know.... BOOM!

Auvio model # 33-283. Rechargeable batteries in transmitter and headset. Last about 5-6 hours. 32 ohms.

I dont think Id risk using that one, the ohms are too low. (4ohms) Might damage the pre amp circuit of the detector...anyone with more knowledge on this wanna chime in?

Re: external speaker
Silent Arrow,
This has an amp as well so the 4ohm speakers are not powered by the detector. All u need to do is plug it into the headphone socket. You can also detach the speakers and fit them where you want on your harness. This system works good for the price but nowhere near as well as JP's BZ booster which is a tad more expensive but much better quality.
