Hi All!
Just wondering if it is possible to use an external speaker off the 4000 without using a booster system? Is it ok to use a speaker If there is an inbuilt amplifier in the speaker?
any help would be great!
cheers..

Hi goltzy
I dont have a 4000 but it should work fine with a speaker / amp combination
From memory I dont think the  4000  has  "target volume " setting , so the speaker/ amp would need a volume controll.
Stopsy would be the guru on this question !!
Cheers
DB

Couldn't see it being a problem goltzy75, so long as there is an amp somewhere, it should work fine. The 45 and 5k had the amp in the battery, the earlier models had enough power for the headphones but didn't have an amp strong enough to power a speaker, therefore an external amp was necessary. My preference would be to have a separate one to the speaker, allowing you to change speakers if it fails or adding an extra one and making it a dual speaker system, but a amp/speaker combo should still work fine.

I have used a Detecc booster with a speaker for the last 18 months on my 4000.
It works very well and made a big difference to my hearing targets and reduced fatigue. The 4000 battery does not have a built in amp and the speaker will not be loud enough without a booster. A Detecc booster is made for the 4000 and only works on the 4000 battery. They are available from Bendigo gold on ebay for about $60 or call the shop direct. The booster connects to the power cable and then to the detector. It uses the main battery for power and I have not noticed any reduction in battery detecting time. The booster tucks onto the box cover on the velcro and is a tidy setup with the volume control right where you can easily reach it. This setup also protects the power cable from being jerked directly.
I find that by running the detector stable and balanced, one can wind the booster vol up and hear those faint signals very well. I have found it to be a big advantage for me. Others prefer headphones and good for them.

Cheers Bill

Thanks for helping clear that up!
I bought a mini twin speaker system from Jaycar a while back. Has got an inbuilt amp and thought it might be good? nice clear sound and a loud little speaker!
