DIY Sluice box - show'n'tell - SLUICING FOR GOLD
DIY Sluice box - show'n'tell - SLUICING FOR GOLD
Just curious what sluicing method people are using
1. Air sluice ( Dry Sluice )
2. DIY sluice ( show'n'tell )
3. Commercial made sluice
4. recirculating sluice
5. recirculating Recovery Trommel
6. etc......
Sluicing has just become another method I would like to have a go at and searching for information on the world'wide'web ( WWW ) on peoples DIY Sluice equipment they have made is just giving me more ideas.
I'm trying to make it portable and compact and self stainable with recirculating water supply. A picture or two is worth a few thousand word essay LOL

Re: DIY Sluice box - show'n'tell - SLUICING FOR GOLD
units were on MRC's in Rushworth Vic -- the green machine could handle 2 men shoveling easily --so i would say 4-6 cubic meters a short day

Re: DIY Sluice box - show'n'tell - SLUICING FOR GOLD
This one is very simple and very effective with fine gold. 25L water will last a few days. Mount the discharge container slightly higher and connect an overflow tube back to the rear container with the 12V bilge pump recirculating the water. Add rinse aid to the water.
Same principle with a gold wheel, both devices home made.

24kr go to www.alluvialgprospectors.proboards.com they have designs and info on high bankers and such. You will have to join first and post a couple of comments to be able to get into the info page, but thats only a formality. Good lot of blokes on site that are more than happy to help you out.

in answer to your question is the machine still in operation? it could very well be with the new owner ! but Marachu aka Spud neglected to answer,
he has sold the G/M some years ago but is still bragging on about it. it would be interesting to know how much gold this monstrosity really yielded
as he has never shown on any forum that I am aware of, and there are quite a few, the gold he claimed he has found if any at all.

Re: DIY Sluice box - show'n'tell - SLUICING FOR GOLD
Murachu,
Fabricated the gold wheel from a $20.00 scrap sheet of aluminium and the legs are 25mm RHS so the unit can be lifted by one easily.
I remove the legs when transporting for ease of packing.
10mm square rubber glued to face makes up the spiral. The whole face was then coated with a rubber solution I sponged from a belt splicer.
A windscreen wiper motor with a conveyor belt disc drives the wheel.
With rinse aid added to the water this wheel picks up mustard gold and deposits in a glass jar hanging behind the centre hole. Have to admit it is a sight to see seeing the gold move up the spiral defying gravity.
The small sluice underneath is a back up and gold is rarely found in here unless it is tiny specimens.
Another couple of photos;
Cheers

Re: DIY Sluice box - show'n'tell - SLUICING FOR GOLD
As you can see 24k the article does explain where JB got his ideas from and around any campfire ive been at with him he always explains where he got those ideas.
"I remembered my granddad talking about how they used bush Banjo's when working such spots, but they were very labor intensive and you very quickly became tired. I pondered this problem until I mentioned it to an uncle who said what you need my boy is a Wet- Jig. Now a Wet-Jigger was used in mining gravel and sand containing gold. My uncle told me you can make them quite portable, they can concentrate the gold far better than a sluice or cradle, and being well raised from the ground, I would have no problems with the tailings from the top hopper. A Wet-Jig is made by placing a hopper or box on top of a body box or sluice box, and legs that fit the apparatus see".
There have been many additions over the years such as a removable tray in the top section which allows you to check the progress of the gold being caught , this idea in its prototype stage was made by a good friend of JB's ,Johno and was further developed by their collaboration together.
There has been a lot of work done by others ,such as double trays and triple trays but these were in my opinion abject failures so 24k if you keep to the basics of this design which as JB says goes way back to the old timers you wont go wrong .

Re: DIY Sluice box - show'n'tell - SLUICING FOR GOLD
Hmmm I don't have much to say nowadays and rarely post in any forums but felt I might put in my two penneth worth here.
Why doesn't "James101" come and tell everyone himself. Or does he just leave everything to his puppets Spud??
I'm sorry but the last couple of times I saw one of his "banjo's" apart from a longer slick plate under the grizzly and catch tray/boil box they were just Highbankers. After all those changes over the years, half pipes, Hexagons, raised slick plates, matting that one week was the greatest new improvement and the next found to catch bugger all, so back to the round hole rubber mats which when one thinks are not any different to the oldtimers sluices with the 1" holes drilled into the timber base board. The "banjo" went right back to a standard shape like any other commercially available unit
Yes they work well, but certainly not anything unique or new in design.
