Hi John,
Try this link for the main campground in town. http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/NationalParks/parkCamping.aspx?id=N0204
This link for some recorded info on area.
http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0006/109725/hill-end-gold-deposits.pdf
The main fossicking area at Tambaroora is off Hill End Rd about 2 or 3 kms north from Hill End township.
It is signposted.
Every man and their dog goes there and it is where Minelab hold their training days I am told.
If you ask in town for the fellow who owns the old saw mill and lives next to the main Silver Orchid Mine poppet (Hill End side) he might be able to help you out.... for the life of me I can't remeber his name, but his sister is living at the old sawmill- he is just down the road next door to the poppet you will see on the main road. He has an old bus in his front yard.
Other than that, hope you find some before tuna swipes it all with the 5000
There are plenty of other areas within 100km, worth a bit of research. Ophir, Sofala, Wattle Flat, Turondale, Lewis Ponds anywhere on the Turon river for small pan size colour...
good luck, Cheers.
