Food For Thought
G'day Ladies/Gents
Here's some food for thought we should all keep in mind.
I've been asked (& on more than one occasion) what are my best settings/timings & or which coil or detector I consider as my constant go to favourite, for use under most ground conditions, only to give the same reply time & time again.
Just like the many variables associated with metal detecting etc ground conditions, type & size of gold found by what detector/coil combo & or at what depth, detecting conditions also change from place to place, or even that of day to day, for there is not one detector/coil, size/type, setting or timing, that covers it all.
What might be good for use over one particular section of ground, can be a nightmare for use over another.
If one is not prepared to chop & change, experiment from one setting/timing/coil type/size to the next, because of personal preference or comfort, will be leaving gold behind for someone else to find.
Just like ground conditions & or gold finds, change from one place to the next, even from one day to the next, so does it require detectorists to be open to change in the way one goes about detecting over a particular area or section of ground.
35 years in this game of detecting for gold & I'm still learning or picking up the odd new thing which would have never crossed my mind without experimenting or trying different things, through different methods/ways.
No man knows it all, we are constantly learning, for the grounds secrets have been here for millions of years, we haven't. One must go out of their way, testing & trying different things by different ways, using different methods, over different ground types, over different days, or you will be leaving gold behind for someone else to find.
I know it can be tedious, time consuming or even considered just a plain waste of time (as some on here may think) but believing in one detector coil settings/timings, covers most your gold finds, over most ground conditions/localities, couldn't be more far from the truth.
Fitness for purpose as well as being bothered to use alternative methods/ways is what this game requires & is all about, meaning not only using the right tools for the job at hand, but changing from one detector coil combo, timings/settings etc etc to the next, in order to thoroughly scan over all or any ground containing gold within reach of ones detector.
Cheers
