Out Of Control Housing Prices

What is causing Australian house prices to go through the roof??
    I suggest you go to an property auction and see how much the auctioneer pumps the price up. Works the crowd into a spending frenzy. The higher the price the higher his/ her commission
Then there is the unabashed greed of the Real Estate agents and of course the Land lords who want the renters to pay off ( Their Investment Property) the mortgage in rent fees.....If you cannot afford to pay your own so called Investment Property mortgage then you should not be able to purchase the property.
     
It will not be long now until Australians will be living in cars, tents, caravans and long stay parks

Agree Adrian , & I think it's sad for long term renters with an established line of payments with no defaults to be refused a housing loan.
Most of these hard working people have long term jobs but are unable to raise the ridiculous high expectations of a huge deposit .
There has to be a simple solution and a little more compassion from the big 4 banks.
And as you say; greed is a factor, every time there is a first time home owners grant the price of the dwelling strangely goes up by that amount

Then of course there is Stamp Duty!!
What a con, what a rip off, what a scam and a lurk.

All anybody needs when purchasing a house from someone is a signed receipt from the seller.

As with cars that are a private sale ,you SOMETIMES fudge the sale price for the buyer?????????????????????????????????

Fifty years ago my land cost 20% of the large home I built. Now I see that the land is 50% or more of the houses price, and there is plenty of land near by.

Similar figure percentages applicable to our house n land today. and the land here is lease Hold in Canberra. What a money making lurk for the Gov.

Plus a local charity organisation is asking for people with blocks of land to allow people to set up tents and camp.

I think this will reduce the pressure on parks Victoria from hassling people camped out in the bush??
