Is there gold on your beach?
Short answer probably yes
I was wondering this as well and after a southerly blow with prolonged heavy rain found a thin layer of black sand exposed on my local beach so took a sample to pan and was surprised with micro but visible gold showing as ten specs from a handful of sand!
But wait there’s more
After panning patiently using the gold claw pan was able to concentrate down to what looked like garnet under the loupe
The pic’s attached show what is really mixed with the gold
Wow so many colours of corundum with gold and sulphides but of course these images were obtained using a small field microscope and iPhone as camera

Re: Is there gold on your beach?
G'day Rockmybed, welcome to the forum.
Interesting pictures/analysis of what black beach sands consist of. Considering gold can be smaller than a micron in size & can be found mixed within anything doesn't surprise me at all (micron gold 0.001 one thousandth of a millimetre in size) but, It would require many panful's of sand for processing, before one weighs in a gram of gold out of it. (less the locality of black sand found, were close to the mouth of an old rich gold bearing river bed, that once flowed out to sea).
Cheers Kon

There is a small creek between Walkerville south and Walkerville north that runs out onto the beach. Apparently it is the only place in vic that has gold on the beach.

Well that's done a lot for tourism in Walkerville
I can recall dad taking us camping at Bear Gully back in the 60's, can't recall spotting any gold there though

Interesting pics mate......Seems to be more gemstones there than black sand.....Can see Ruby, Sapphire, topaz, qtz, and who knows, maybe a diamond or two?
There is gold in the beach sands around Batemans Bay where the local creeks and rivers enter the sea.

Thanks Adrian those are the remnant heavies after running black sands through a cleanup sluice and then carefully panning sulphides away- tedious work but great result
