Some controversial  and contested views expressed in this post. However the author is correct in stating that travel bans will not stop the spread of  Omicron.It will come to Australia ,in fact i believe its highly likely that its here already! Genomic sequencing in the next few days will tell us for sure.  What is really important is that we maintain high vaccination levels  including booster shots  using a different vaccine which seems to result in the most  robust  immune response. The vaccines should still be effective in preventing serious disease from Omicron but we  may find that they are not as effective as with previous strains.

We are now in a situation where each country looking after their own interests and companies looking after their bottom line is clearly going to result in dire consequences for humankind.This new variant is a direct result and an expected one of not supporting impoverished countries.Unfortunately governments act re actively as situations arise which will not solve this crisis.
The only way the covid virus will be contained is when there are not enough hosts for transmission and those that survive naturally have immunity to variants.This is called the evolutionary process or natural selection.
I like to be optimistic but people are inherently selfish and we must be realistic that we can't reach a situation of "All in it together".The entire world needs to quarantine at the same time totally.

Very true! In impoverished countries that also have a lot of immuno compromised people due to aids and other endemic diseases high levels of vaccination are critical otherwise these countries become the epicenter of viral mutations ie new variants

Its has just been announced by NSW health the 2 people who flew in from South Africa have omicron covid.

Listen fellas each can believe what they like & one can either adhere to what the medical profession or governments have advised or not. What I don't want to see is members taking it out on one another through rhetoric, innuendo, or uncivilized manner.
If these arguments continue in a degrading manner (which is bad for members as well as the forum), I will be forced to delete peoples posts of what I think to be inappropriate.
