Early days out with the 6000
Early days out with the 6000
Certainly is a Gpx but I do miss some of the manual over rides.Auto tracking(Geo-sense PI I guess)is a bit slow for me in variable ground but I can live with it.A faster tracking would be nice I guess I can hold the fast track in.Signals are clear and pin pointing easy as.
Sensitivity adjust works perfectly and Auto/Auto+seem to be just right.Threshold pretty stable at about half scale.
A USB socket would be nice on the charger,I just hope everyone has a spare as its not supplied for the headphones.Charger is slow takes about the same as time spent detecting.
I will update this post if i find something, lucky a Pal let me try one before my purchase as its a big outlay.

Was that with the standard coil? I'm thinking of selling my 4500 to buy one,but wondering how long the wait time is till they're in stock

Re: Early days out with the 6000
I rang around to find the shortest list and then put my name down.Took only a couple of weeks. There is a learning curve on the 6000 and even though its simple to operate you need to target known alluvial areas with small solids the gold is patchy. This detector requires some experience to get results and I am still holding on to the 5000 at this stage particularly as to the availability of larger coils.I just purchased a 15 Evo for specific areas.
Got out today at the same area and the biggest was a 0.18g and the smallest I couldn't weigh. The depths of the nuggets so far have been up to 5.5" with most around 2-3".21 Bird shot today. This cleanup is far from over.

Re: Early days out with the 6000
So far the pro's for me are :
Light weight and turn on and go design with twin knuckles to retract shaft for compact storage.Easy fit skid plate.
Clear signals even in variable or wet ground, very few false targets
Depth of targets
Edge sensitivity of coil is superb.
Ability to detect old areas and pull up easy signals
No need to scratch or find undetected ground
Ease of use of control screen and speed of functions
Price is value for money
Detachable headphone cord for replacement
The cons or things I would like changed:
An adjustment for tracking speed.Fast track is excellent though but the button is awkward to press.
Charger too slow takes about twice as long as the Previous GPX's + a USB charger should be supplied.
Would have preferred a 17" coil instead of the 14"DD.
One thing I have noticed is a higher level of concentration is required and this detector may not suit some people, its a definite low and very slow detector or you may not get the results anticipated.

Re: Early days out with the 6000
This detector is ideal for tracking the run of old patches where its difficult to know when they've been well detected, especially around quartz reefs.I've found the small remaining gold can easily be followed to reveal the direction and size of the run.Its sort of like loaming but with a detector.
Something I should mention though is the remaining gold is often not in the same location as the coarser gold previously found and it takes a bit of leg work to locate it and often there simply isn't any smaller gold.
As far as using the detector it appears that it works well with whatever settings I've tried and probably will just be personal preference for users. Its important not to have any metal on your person including metal framed glasses, belt buckles etc and the headphones can't come close to the coil at all.
Emi cancel is necessary quite often and the use of fast track if in variable ground. The detector does not like the coil tilted of the horizontal at all and if your doing mullocks or steep hills be aware you will get EMI.You can run low manual which will sort it out if necessary.
I've started using the bluetooth headphones and they work very well.I haven't noticed any delay at all I think there low latency if I remember.Had some issues at first with the charging not turning solid blue on completion but seems to have come good now.Bluetooth connection is easy just turn on and go.
Hope this post assists others as there's not a lot of info out there at the moment.

I could dumb it right down but at what cost?
Not sure if you can play with the 6000 and to what extent??
False signals keep you fit

Re: Early days out with the 6000
Thanks for your posts on the 6000.
I have had one for about a month and was wondering what sensitivity you and others preferred.
I find i prefer it on low sensitivity 1 or 2 as this reduces the chatter yet targets still come through clearly.
But i have been playing with it on auto 1 with no freshold. I realise this may miss targets but its way too noisy with the freshhold on .Once i get a target i flick it back down to 1 or 2 and check.
The no threshold option feels a bit like using discrimination on the earlier model detectors.
What are your thoughts on this.

95% of the time I use it on the highest manual setting. In one location I had to use it set at 12 noon.
